With any phone, we strongly suggest getting a good-quality case, and there are tons of amazing cases for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 out there. However, we know accidents can always happen.

Samsung launched its self-repair program in the US back in 2022, giving device owners more options when it comes to troubleshooting. Under the program, it’s now possible to obtain everything from authentic Samsung phone screens to volume keys. This has enabled device owners to make their own repairs, as well as seek repairs from third parties, who have access to genuine parts. The self-repair program has expanded to other countries since its debut, including Mexico, Brazil, and many European countries. Now, Samsung is continuing its global expansion and adding Galaxy foldables to the mix.

Smartphones go with us everywhere, from our houses to the beach. They're our constant companions. They are with us when we get wet or trip and fall and can be damaged alongside us. Even if you have a premium Android phone with the newest screen protection, there's no guarantee your phone won't break if it falls or is hit. Stores like uBreakiFix can service many popular devices on the same day, so you don't have to go without your phone for long.

A quick fix for a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 screen isn’t going to be cheap

A broken phone screen is a hassle at the best of times, but a broken Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 screen adds additional layers of complexity. Not only can the folding screen break if you drop your phone, but there’s also a 3.4-inch cover screen that can become scratched or cracked. Right now, Samsung recommends completely replacing the screen rather than repairing it. This is not covered by a standard Samsung warranty, so you’ll have to pay.

Dealing with a broken smartphone is just the absolute worst. Thankfully, repair options slowly feel like they've been getting better, with companies warming up to things like DIY programs. Pixel owners have long grappled with the inconvenience of navigating Google's historically inconsistent repair support, but now it sounds like a handy new option could be about to debut, with a report claiming that Best Buy is preparing to roll out in-store repairs for Google Pixel smartphones at select locations.

Using your phone with a cracked screen is never a good idea

Even though you are extra cautious with your expensive smartphone, an accidental drop may crack its screen in no time. While phone companies go to great lengths to create a shatter-resistant display, it's hard to escape from a broken phone screen during an unfortunate incident. Instead of using your phone with a cracked screen (and further increasing the damage), you should get it fixed by the manufacturer or a third-party service.

Leaving your phone at the service center, even one officially authorized by the manufacturer, has the potential to be a real nightmarish experience. Will the data on your phone be safe from prying eyes? Or can you even expect to get it back with all data intact? Companies like iFixit, Apple, and Google are all helping out with the option for you to repair your devices yourself, but Samsung seems to have a simpler solution in the form of its new Repair Mode feature.

Apple beats Android to the punch with its robust consumer repair program, available now

It's a great preview for what to expect from Samsung and Google later this year

Apple first announced its DIY repair program late last year, giving a massive win to right-to-repair enthusiasts everywhere and likely spurring Google and Samsung to offer similar solutions. At the time, we had plenty of questions regarding when it would be available, how much it would cost, and when the company would eventually add support for older phones. We're learning the answers to some of those questions with today's official launch.

New York state senate passes sweeping right to repair bill

The bill would require manufacturers to provide information, parts, and tools to end users and third-party repair shops

There's a consumerist revolution blooming in the United States, centering around the right to repair and modify the things you buy without the approval of the manufacturer that made them. The latest major victory occurred in the New York state senate, where a sweeping bill making repair information and parts available to consumers passed by a wide margin.

Swappa is one of the best places to sell phones, tablets, game consoles, laptops, and certain other types of electronics. However, there are times when repairing your existing device is preferable to selling it, which is where Swappa's new Repair Network comes in.

Asurion, an insurance company offering services including accidental damage protection and warranty extension for consumer electronics, has just acquired the retail phone repair outlet uBreakiFix. This follows the latter company's recent celebration opening its 500th store,

Google released the Pixel 3 and 3 XL almost five months ago, and it's been a bit of a pain to get it repaired should your phone end up damaged. Google's online mail-in service didn't accept the new phones, so you'd have to find a walk-in uBreakifix location for official repairs. Now, Google's repair center will finally take your busted Pixel 3.

A busted phone usually leaves you with two options: an expensive and lengthy repair by the manufacturer or doing it yourself with potentially suspect parts. Motorola is getting together with iFixit to offer certified repair kits for some of its phones. You get OEM parts, tools, and instructions to get the job done.

As phones get more and more expensive, it seems logical that more and more people are purchasing insurance for peace of mind. Verizon seems to be aware of this, and it's upping the price of its Total Mobile Protection plan from $11 to $13 per month for phones starting very soon. However, the deductible for phone replacement is dropping by quite a bit to $89.

Most carriers offer some sort of monthly insurance plan for your phone when you buy a new phone from them, and Verizon is no exception. But to make its Total Mobile Protection plans more appealing, Big Red has made a few changes, including a price reduction for deductibles and a new enrollment period for phones less than two years old.

Google partnered with electronics repair chain uBreakiFix when the Pixel launched last year to provide same-day repairs for basic issues like cracked screens. Now, Google and uBreakiFix are looking to relieve at least a little stress for Pixel owners in the Houston area who have been hit by Hurricane Harvey. If you live in Houston and have a broken Pixel, uBreakiFix will fix it for free.

Those who might need to do some phone repair, like a daughterboard replacement to fix a bad microUSB port, or a battery swap to fix some unfortunate bulge, might be drawn by this particular deal. Over at Massdrop, there is a group-buy together for the iFixit Universal Bit Kit. Originally .95, you can pick up the set for a 30% discount at $69.99 (plus $9 for shipping), if you are willing to wait a bit. Not a bad trade-off.If you're big into mechanical keyboards, like most of us here at Android Police are, then the odds are that you know the name Massdrop. For the unfamiliar, Massdrop is a "group buy" site that organizes periodic bulk purchases from manufacturers, ostensibly to save consumers money. Prices can be hit-or-miss, and there's always the question of delays, but it can sometimes get you a good deal.
