Casual observers of the electronic accessory scene will probably recognize Incipio as a seller of respectable if somewhat unremarkable cases for flagship phones and tablets. Incipio makes other accessories too, but cases and other protective add-ons are their bread and butter... which is probably why the company has left acquisitions like Braven to do their own things even after acquiring them. Observers will also know Skullcandy as a seller of remarkable if less-than-respectable headphones, lining Best Buy and Target shelves all over the US. As of this week, Incipio owns Skullcandy. How about that. Read More
CES always seems to have at least one major trend at the trade show, and this year's hot ticket is virtual reality. With a new HTC Vive headset, the announcement of the Oculus Rift's pricey consumer model, and all manner of smaller announcements, it's safe to say that VR is the belle of the ball on the show floor. But all of them have one thing in common: you can't fit them in a pocket. Even Google's super-cheap Cardboard system is about the size of a dSLR camera when assembled. Case maker Speck thinks it's solved that problem with a new design, which is about the same size as a phone. Read More
This generation of Nexus phones is having some teething troubles, or at least the accessories are. A few weeks after the first batch of Nexus 6P cases appeared to block the laser auto-focus module on the rear of the phone, some early cases for the Nexus 5X are showing similar problems. According to the comments (which we can't independently verify) this is a problem with early cases from many popular manufacturers, including Diztronic, Cruzerlite, and Verus. Read More
Remember those hints of a "Google Workshop" with user-customizable phone cases with matching wallpapers that Android Police showed off back in April? Those were really cool, huh? Well, this is not that. Unless your name is Skrillex.
Yes indeed, the well-known dubstep perpetrator Skrillex now has his own collection of phone cases on sale in the Google Store. At the moment the "Live Case" comes in three designs, available for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, and Galaxy Note 4. Read More
HTC has apparently dived head-first into a decentralized software support model. Translation: they're throwing everything they possibly can onto the Play Store, presumably so they don't have to wait for a full carrier update to tweak or improve their various Sense apps. The latest one to land in the Play Store is HTC Dot View, the support app for the interesting Dot View case, a cover that puts a perforated design to use.
If you throw the new Dot View case on the new HTC One (M8), you can get pertinent info delivered right through the hundreds of holes in the cover without ever flipping it open. Read More
