Google's asking for your help to improve how the Phone app identifies businesses
Where are my Local Guide points?
If you’re one of the millions of people using the Google Phone app on your smartphone, you’re already enjoying some of the great features like call screening, blocking numbers, and visual voicemail. You also might have noticed that calls from some businesses (ones with a Google My Business listing) display the company name and category in the caller ID. Going forward, Google is going to be relying more on users to help categorize incoming calls, and we're now starting to see the first signs of that.
Google has updated so many of its apps to fit Material You guidelines, it's getting hard to keep track. While Contacts got a facelift a few weeks ago, its matching dialer app had yet to see the same attention. With the release of a new beta, that's finally changing.
Good riddance to bubbles as Google's dialer app starts adopting 'chips' on Android 12
Goes great with fish
"Chat heads" have been roundly criticized by Android users as one of the most annoying user experiences and design aspects on the platform. Those peeved by the so-called bubbles may soon find at least some relief with Android 12, as Google's dialer app looks to go in a new direction with chips.
The Google Phone app is getting a much better way to search for numbers you recently called
Previously-dialed numbers that aren't in your contacts now show up in search results for the Google Phone app
There's a small quality of life tweak we've been waiting for in Phone by Google for a long time. When you're entering a new number from the dialer, the search function automatically populates with items from your contacts that match the number you're entering. In the beta version, some users are now seeing previously-dialed numbers (which haven't been saved to Contacts) in these results.
The Google Phone app is testing three new additions, including caller ID announcement
New app, who dis?
The Phone by Google app isn't a Pixel exclusive anymore, but that doesn't mean the development team is taking a break on implementing new stuff. Google officially announced Verified Calls earlier this month, and now we've gotten a look at two more additions currently in the works — including Caller ID announcement.
