We're well past the point where any Android enthusiast would be expecting (or perhaps more accurately hoping) that his or her phone will be getting an update full of Marshmallowy goodness, perhaps delivered by some confectionary fairy. Alas, for owners of the Xperia C4 and Xperia C5 Ultra, it's a bag full of Lollipops instead. Both phones are now being updated by Sony to Android 5.1, a version of the OS which we'll remind you is now almost a year old.

Verizon's Galaxy Note 4 Finally, Finally, Finally Gets Android 5.1.1 Update

Verizon really isn't on the ball with its Note 4 updates. When Google released the Android 5.1 source code in March of 2015, the Note 4 was only half a year old and it was still one of the most expensive flagships being sold by the operator. Now sure, Samsung took its sweet time to have Android 5.1 ready for everyone, but by the beginning of August, Sprint had already released it. AT&T followed in October, and T-Mobile at the end of November.

Verizon? Well, as the largest carrier in the US, customers would have assumed that their operator would be burning the midnight oil trying to get the update out to them as soon as possible.

Sprint Sends A Marshmallow OTA Update To The LG G Stylo

Well this is a bit of a surprise. When Sprint launched its carrier-branded version of the LG G Stylo back in June of this year, it didn't garner too much attention - it's just another big-screen, low-price device filling out the mid range, albeit with a somewhat novel built-in stylus. If you were to make a list of the phones you'd expect to see rocking the latest version of Android by the end of 2015, the G Stylo might be just in front of the Kyocera Echo.

The Sprint LG G4 Starts Getting An Update To Android 6.0 Marshmallow

When Google released the Marshmallow source code, many manufacturers were quick to jump on the news and start announcing updates to their flagships. In mid-October, LG started rolling out the android OTA in Poland first as a test, with promises to expand to other countries and operators later.

Now that update is ready for the US and Sprint is the first operator to get it. On its support page for the device, Sprint says the update was available yesterday, December 17th. It's rolling out as software version LS991ZV9 with Marshmallow and Sprint Global Roaming.
