Still Waiting For The OTA? Don't Be - Update Your Sprint Nexus S 4G To Official Android 2.3.5 Manually (Build GRJ90)

After 2 weeks of delays, the much anticipated Nexus S 4G update (Sprint only for now, sorry AT&T/T-Mo) to Android 2.3.5 (GRJ90) started rolling out earlier today. If you haven't gotten yours yet but want to apply it immediately to enjoy that nice boost to 4G speeds, among other things, then proceed to our instructions below - you'll be rocking the official 2.3.5 build in no time.

Instructions

Note: Make sure you're running stock Android 2.3.4, build GRJ22 (the update will likely fail if you're rooted).

Download the update file GRJ90-from-GRJ22 and rename it to update.zip (make sure it's named update.zip and not update.zip.zip if you're using Windows and have it set to hide file extensions).

ATRIX 4G Gingerbread Update Now Available Via OTA - Brings Sideloading, New MOTOBLUR

Better late than never, right? Motorola's first dual-core handset, the ATRIX 4G, has finally received the green light for Gingerbread - and the OTA is a go. If you head into your Settings menu, and hit About Phone, then System Updates - the update should be waiting for you. If not, just wait a while - OTA's often take several days or even weeks to complete the "rollout" process.

What does the update bring? Well, Android 2.3.4 is the big star of the OTA. ATRIX 4G users will experience better app performance, UI refinements, and (hopefully) a slew of bugfixes. You'll also get a shiny new version of MOTOBLUR - hopefully one that's similar to what the DROID 3 is running, which we think is the best (well, least bad, maybe) version of the skin to date, and by a country mile.

Nexus S 4G Android 2.3.5 Update With WiMAX Speed Improvements Rolling Out July 25

After a delay, Sprint has unveiled the much-awaited Android 2.3.5 update for the Nexus S 4G, and it will start rolling out Monday, July 25th. The update brings a much needed fix for bogged-down 4G speeds on the handset, which have plagued users since the phone's release.

Additionally, some Wi-Fi bugs have been exterminated, the speakerphone should sound better, and TTY support for deaf users has been added. You'll also ~~get a 4G toggle widget~~ (update: maybe not), and NFC will officially be enabled. Here's Sprint's statement on the update:

HTC Thunderbolt OTA Update 1.70.605.0 (Froyo) Rolling Out Now, Fixes Reboots, Enhances Data Connectivity, More

Would you look at that - only hours after we leaked the long overdue update that, most importantly, fixes reboot issues, Verizon opened the flood gates and is now pushing the 74MB download over-the-air to HTC Thunderbolts all over the country.

The update version number is 1.70.605.0 and, unfortunately, it's not Gingerbread (remember how we told you that the June 30th Gbread rumor had to be fake?). The full list of improvements can be found in this PDF document, which I will include below for convenience:

HTC: Our Testing Has Gone Well, So We Will Begin Rolling Out Gingerbread For The Desire By The End Of July

Ah, what a turn of events the HTC Desire has seen as of late. It went from not getting Gingerbread, to okay, we'll give it Gingerbread, to testing, and now, to will be released by the end of July.

According to HTC's official Facebook page, the update should begin rolling out by the end of July - but we all know how these things work. I'm sure it's coming, but I wouldn't hold firm to any single date until you actually see the update on your device.

Of course, this also brings up one question: what has been sacrificed to allow Gingerbread to actually fit on the device?

[Rumor] Samsung Epic 4G To Get Gingerbread At The End Of July?

A few weeks ago, we saw a leaked Gingerbread build for the Samsung Epic 4G and it looks like Sammy has been putting the finishing touches on it since then. According to SprintFeed, Epic owners could see an OTA hit their device around July 24th. This is a tentative date, so don't grab the sharpie and make it permanent on the calendar just yet (oh, who am I kidding - no one uses a traditional calendar anymore).

Further details are basically non-existent at this point, but we'll make sure we keep our eyes on this one and fill you in as we get more info.

[Updated With Screenshots] DROID Incredible 2 Gingerbread OTA Documentation Found On Verizon Site, Update Imminent

Well look at what we found. It seems the Dinc2's Gingerbread update is on the way, and should be arriving soon - very soon. This update differs from previous leaks (though it is still Android 2.3.3), here's Verizon's breakdown of the new features:

We're not sure when this update's coming, but when Verizon tosses up these support pages, it's usually a good sign that an OTA update has been given the green light. Let's hope it doesn't take them too long. Please note, when this update does come around, it will remove root access from your phone if you're rooted - and there's no way to get it back at the moment.

Well, That Was Fast - HTC Is Testing A Gingerbread Build For The Desire

A couple of weeks ago, HTC said that, after months of hard work and failed attempts from its engineers, Gingerbread would not be coming to the Desire. Naturally, this brought on an onslaught of negative feedback from Desire owners, and HTC quickly backpedaled, stating that Gingerbread would be coming to the Desire, albeit a bit stripped down. It appears that this update was easier to put together than originally thought, as the build has now reached the testing phase, according to HTC's official Facebook page.

This means the official OTA should be just around the corner, but as always, we'll keep you posted as more information arises.

You heard it here first, folks - the EVO 4G is receiving an update in just 5 short days to address two of the major problems that users have experienced after the jump to Gingerbread. Specifically, non-working Netflix (boooo), and odd Visual Voicemail notification behavior. The turnaround time in getting this update out is pretty impressive, considering the Gingerbread OTA landed just a little over 2 weeks ago.

Gingerbread Now Available For HTC EVO Shift 4G As A Manual Update

Looks like EVO Shift 4G owners won't have to wait till tomorrow to get their Gingerbread fix; in spite of what we heard yesterday, it appears that the update is already available.

As a refresher, the update brings Swype and addresses a few media streaming-related bugs in addition to adding all the usual Gingerbread goodies.

To download it to your device, first open the Settings app, then tap "System Updates," and finally go to "HTC Software Update." Alternatively, you could wait for Monday, when Sprint will officially begin the rollout, automatic notifications and all.
