AT&T Issues Small OTA Updates For The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 And Galaxy Tab S 8.4

Good news, owners of the AT&T variants of the Galaxy Mega 2 and Galaxy Tab S 8.4: your Samsung gadgets are getting a software update! Bad news, same people: you're probably not going to notice or care about the things contained within. The Galaxy Mega 2 gets "user interface enhancements" and the addition of the AT&T Messages Backup Service, and the Tab S only gets "revised link management handling in Calendar." Try to contain your enthusiasm.

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Lollipop 5.0.1 Update Adds A Custom Power Menu, HD Camera Effects, And More

Update: We had a bit of a misunderstanding on the update text. As commenter Gardner points out, the restart and other options on the power button menu were in the SHIELD Tablet 5.0 update. The "SHIELD Power Control" menu, a section of the primary Android Settings menu that was included in KitKat but dropped from the 5.0 update, is back in 5.0.1. Sorry for the confusion.

Inside the SHIELD Power Control menu are basic settings for the Tegra K1 processor and a few screen options, as well as more standard Android settings like a sleep timer for the screen and Wi-Fi.

Both AT&T And Verizon Send OTA Updates For Carrier Versions Of The Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 And 10.1

Here's something you don't see every day. American carriers AT&T and Verizon both offer the fourth-generation models of the Galaxy Tab 8.0 and 10.1, and this weekend, they're each updating both versions. That indicates some kind of coordinated effort on the part of Samsung's software engineers... or a remarkable coincidence. In any case, owners should start seeing the over-the-air updates come in today, though some will have to wait a few more days.

Verizon's LG G Pad 8.3 Gets A Small Update To Add LTE Roaming And Fix Power-On Issues

LG's G Pad 8.3 is, at least for the moment, the company's most high-end tablet available on Verizon's proprietary CDMA/LTE network. Today this carrier-specific model (VK810) gets a small software update to address one big user issue, one small carrier issue, and an outdated app. The latter is the Redbox streaming video app, formerly supported by Verizon, and now out of service. The latest update removes the RedBox app completely.

Android Wear 5.0 OTA Rollout Has Completed

According to Wayne Piekarski, senior developer advocate for Android, Wear, and Glass, the rollout of OTA updates to Android Wear 5.0 is complete now, meaning all users should have - by this point - had the opportunity to download and install the update if their watch is paired with a phone.

Piekarski reminds watch face makers that time is ticking to migrate their faces to the official Watch Face API. Google says watch faces not using the official API will have support dropped after January 31, 2015.

LG Has Started Its Full European G3 Lollipop Rollout

LG was fast to toot its own horn after being the first OEM to (sort of) push out a Lollipop update. That original OTA only went out to Poland, but now users of the international D855 model are getting their updates all across Europe.

[Update: Rolling Out] Nexus 5 To Receive Android 5.0.1 OTA Update Today According To Sprint And T-Mobile

Update: Here is the link to the OTA file, direct from Google's servers.

We get excited about bugfix releases around these parts, even if they don't bring the kind of glossy user-facing changes that the big updates do. Android 5.0.1 hit AOSP early this month, and now it looks like the over-the-air update will be on its way to Nexus 5 owners before the end of today. Sprint and T-Mobile have both shared the news themselves.

AT&T's Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 And Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 Updated With Play Store Carrier Billing, Kid's Mode, And Security Fixes

AT&T's Samsung tablet lineup is getting a couple of small updates, but it probably won't be all that interesting unless you've got a very specific need for carrier billing or kid-friendly content. The AT&T branded versions of both the Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 (good grief, Samsung, your names are a mouthful) are receiving minor updates to their firmware. Neither one boosts the Android software on the tablets (4.4.2), but they do add a few tools.

[Update: ZIP Files] The HTC One M7 And M8 Google Play Edition Are Receiving An Android 5.0.1 OTA Update Now

Lollipop is slowly, slowly making its way to all of the Nexus and Google Play Edition devices available (yes, N7 LTE owners, we hear you). If you purchased the "pure," AOSP-packing version of either the HTC One M7 from 2013 or the flagship One M8 earlier this year, you should be getting an over-the-air update to Android 5.0 soon. We're seeing tips from owners of both Google Play Edition phones.

And surprisingly, it looks like both phones are in fact getting Android 5.0.1, the ever-so-slightly newer edition of Lollipop that should fix some of the initial problems discovered after large-scale software releases.
