Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Rollout Beginning Now With HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus Devices

In a post to the Nexus Google+ page just minutes ago, it was revealed that the official rollout of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the Galaxy Nexus is beginning now (just after its addition to AOSP), starting with HSPA+ connected Galaxy Nexus Devices. Users of Galaxy Nexus devices carrying the Yakju and Takju software variants should expect to receive an OTA prompt some time within the "next several days."

The post also revealed that the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus won't be alone in receiving an official Jelly Bean update.

Nexus S 4G Now "Fully Supported In AOSP, With No Restrictions"

In a post to the Android Building group earlier today, Jean-Baptiste Queru announced that Samsung's Nexus S 4G has officially and fully been brought into the AOSP fold. The device is now fully supported by AOSP, meaning its CDMA – and WiMax – binaries can now be "properly" distributed. Here's the full text of the announcement:

We've been able to resolve the issues around Nexus S 4G, and we can now properly distribute its CDMA and WiMAX binaries.

Official (And Open-Source) iFixit App Hits The Play Store – Tear Down And Repair From Anywhere

Perhaps the most popular (and complete) free repair manual in existence, iFixit, launched an official app for Android recently, bringing detailed step-by-step repair instructions and (of course) the saucy teardown images we've come to know and love from the service's online counterpart to your Android devices.

For those who don't know, iFixit provides users with incredibly detailed repair guides for a huge variety of things from laptops to mobile devices, game consoles, and even cars, including great imagery and nice explanations for why hardware is the way it is.

Costco's Official App Lands In The Play Store – Shop, Ship, And Save From Your Mobile Device

Costco, promising to take customers "beyond the warehouse walls with the ease of [their] smartphone," released an official Costco Wholesale app to the Play Store recently.

The app, created by one of the most popular (and largest) wholesalers in America, allows users to do much of what they could do in a physical Costco location, or shopping online – users can shop Costco.com's "unique, expanded" collection, locate the nearest Costco location, grab online and in-store coupons, refill prescriptions, read "The Costco Connection," choose business or home delivery options, and take note of what you need to buy with a handy built-in notepad.

Some HTC Incredible S Users Getting Treated To 4.10.405.1 OTA, Bringing Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4

Some users of HTC's Incredible S have received a sweet surprise today, with OTA updates to Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) rolling out throughout the day. Currently, the update seems to be going out to users throughout Europe, with no reports from North America just yet. The update is about 250MB, and brings the device's software up to version 4.10.405.1, with ICS running underneath Sense 3.6.

There's no word from HTC just yet on when the OTA will begin to roll out to other users, but we'll keep an eye on the story and update pending more information.

Viggle For Android Comes Out Of Beta And Lands In The Play Store – Earn Rewards From Your Couch By Checking In To Popular TV Shows

Viggle, which pairs a great idea with a funny name, is an app we covered last month during its beta period. The TV check-in app, which has already seen great success on iOS, recently landed in the Play Store though, finally out of beta.

For those not familiar with the app, Viggle essentially listens to your TV's audio (at your command), and figures out which show(s) you're watching by comparing the audio it heard to a database, rewarding points depending on the programming (for instance, promoted shows get more points).

For those looking forward to 2012's playing of what is widely considered the oldest (and most well-known) tennis tournament in existence, the official Wimbledon app hit the Play Store recently, bringing live scores, results, schedules, and more.

The app, despite its somewhat all-over-the-place UI, provides a ton of functionality, not only giving users information about the games, but also about players – Wimbledon's official app gives users player profiles, video previews, highlight reels, features, interviews and "golden moments" photos.

Well folks, it's finally (officially) here. Since it was yanked from the S3 (and put through a beta period), Android users have been anticipating the "Social Magazine" which has already seen great success on iOS. The app, which is billed as "the one thing to simplify your daily life," hit the Play Store tonight, bringing a social news reader with an innovative user interface to Android users everywhere.
