HTC One X Gets Jelly Bean 4.1 (3.14.206.27) On O2 UK, With A Spoonful of Alphabet Soup

Don't say we don't love you, United Kingdom readers. Those of you rocking an HTC One X on the O2 network should check your settings menu, if you haven't gotten the update already. HTC representatives have taken to Twitter to announce the arrival of Android 4.1 to the former flagship handheld, and users on the company forums have confirmed the upgrade to software version 3.14.206.27. It looks like a nationwide rollout this morning afternoon, so warm up that wireless connection if you want some Sense-flavored Jelly Bean.

Jelly Bean Updates Roll Out To Unbranded UK, Switzerland, Luxemburg Galaxy S IIIs And Branded Ones In 8 Other Countries

The pace at which Samsung is pushing out Galaxy S III Jelly Bean updates is picking up steam in Europe with the much anticipated arrival of Android 4.1.1 for unbranded UK handsets. The Brits aren't the only ones getting it today - in fact, the list is quite sizeable. Here, check it out:

  • Luxemburg unbranded (update: supposedly, Belgian S IIIs use the same version too)

Jelly Bean Update For The Samsung Galaxy S III Goes Live On Vodafone And O2 After Brief Delays

European O2 and Vodafone Galaxy S III owners, it's finally your turn to check out Jelly Bean first hand. Following last week's updates on Hutchison Whampoa networks (Three/3/H3G), now O2 and Vodafone joined the party and started pushing out Android 4.1.1 to Galaxy S IIIs in at least the following locations:

  • O2: United Kingdom, Ireland
  • Vodafone: United Kingdom, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany

The Vodafone launch started today right on schedule, as per this post from a few days ago.

Phones4U Begins Samsung Galaxy S III Mini Pre-Orders In The UK, Starting From £25 A Month And Shipping On November 2nd

Now that Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S III Mini, Phones4U has started to take pre-orders in the UK, with prices for the mid-range phone starting at £25 a month.

All of the tariffs on offer from Vodafone, Orange, and O2 offer the phone for free, although none of the plans include a data allowance over 1GB per month.

The cheapest option is available from Vodafone, giving you 300 minutes, unlimited texts, and a paltry 250MB of data per month for £25.

UK Expected To Beat 4G Goal By Six Months, Mobile Spectrum Auction To Begin In Late 2012

It looks like mobile device users in the UK can expect 4G services to begin rolling out a bit sooner than previously expected – six months sooner, to be specific.

The Wallstreet Journal reported Tuesday that the UK government has struck a deal with the UK's four largest mobile operators which will enable the auction of 4G mobile spectrum to begin at the end of 2012, with bidding beginning in early 2013.

Huawei Ascend Y100 Launching Exclusively On O2 In The UK For £80, Promises To Be Nice To Your Wallet

At a time where phone networks in the UK are fighting over 4G spectrum, it's easy to forget that not everyone is willing, or able, to spend £40 a month on a fast mobile phone - just ask those public sector workers who are striking over pensions today.

With this in mind, it shouldn't come as a surprise that O2 is attempting to broaden its smartphone lineup by adding Huawei's Ascend Y100 into the mix.

Android 2.1 Update Gets Previewed On Dell Streak : 720P, Pinch-To-Zoom, New Keyboard

That Richard Lai fella sure gets all the luck, eh? Not only was Engadget’s London-based editor amongst the first to get to play with a Streak (aka Mini 5), Dell’s impressive 5” Android slate device, he’s now gotten an exclusive look at an early build of Eclair 2.1 running on the “tablet-phone”. While the previously unexpected 1.6 to 2.1 update is intended as a stop-gap measure to reduce the pain of waiting for Froyo, Engadget encountered several new features in their time with the new OS.

O2 FroYo Update Schedule Revealed

The official German O2 Twitter account posted a tweet this weekend that the Motorola Milestone (better known as the Verizon Droid to us Yanks) will be getting Android 2.2 in mid-late September of this year. Also contained in the announcement was news that the HTC Desire will be receiving FroYo in mid-to-late August,  and the Galaxy S in mid-September while the Flipout and X10 are still TBD. It’s great to see these phones receiving prompt updates to the latest OS version after the slower rollouts of some of the previous updates (We’re looking at you Eclair).

Dell Streak Officially Announced For The UK, Available In The US Later This Summer

One of Dell’s worst kept secrets, the Dell Streak, has finally been officially unveiled by Dell. The phone/tablet hybrid is slated to launch in early June and will be available exclusively on the O2 mobile carrier in the UK.

I haven’t had the chance to play with one yet, but the Dell Streak seems like it will be a bit of an awkward phone, primarily due to its massive screen. With a 5 inch screen the phone attempts to fill in the gap between full blown tablets and cellphones…a gap that I’m not sure necessarily needed to be filled.
