US Army Special Forces to dump Galaxy Note II for iPhone 6S because iPhones are "faster"

In what I am tempted to say may be the stupidest news I've read all morning (give me an hour, though, I just grabbed my coffee), the US Army's Special Operations Command is allegedly dumping its current Nett Warrior embedded tactical smartphone solution - a 4-year-old Galaxy Note II - for an iPhone 6S. Because, and I quote DoDBuzz's source here, the iPhone is "faster; smoother. Android freezes up." Wait, you're telling me a smartphone that's four years old trying to run a specialized government app isn't very fast or stable? I am shocked, sir - simply taken aback!

This staggering conclusion has led the US Army Special Forces to decide that, after testing those same applications on an iPhone 6S - a phone benefitting from four years of technological advancement over its replacement - iPhones are simply better.

Samsung has been rolling out Galaxy Gear support to additional devices since the end of October, lumping the functionality in with updates to Android 4.3. A leaked schedule provided a timeline of when to expect various Galaxy handsets across the big four American carriers to get updated, and many OTAs started rolling out right on schedule. Others have not. The AT&T Galaxy Note II's update has been somewhat of a tortoise, but it may soon cross the finish line, as the long-awaited OTA is finally inbound.

AT&T Galaxy Note II Getting A 165MB OTA To Version I317UCAMH3 That Doesn't Really Do Anything Interesting

The Galaxy Note II is getting an OTA update. Hooray, right?! Eh, kind of. The update clocks in at 165MB, but it doesn't bump the Android version or even add new features. What you're getting is 165MB of updates to Google and AT&T preloaded apps.

The update will be pushed down to everyone automatically over the coming days, but you can check for the OTA manually from the Software Update menu. After the update, your About Device screen should still read Android 4.1.2, but baseband will be I317UCAMH3 and the kernel should be 3.0.31-1363381. This update is still a variant of the JZO54K build of Jelly Bean.

[Update: Winner!] Celebrate Mothers' Day With Samsung And Android Police By Entering To Win A Galaxy Note II For Yo' Mama

In the movie 3:10 to Yuma, Ben Wade (played by Russell Crowe) said "even bad men love their mamas" right after laying trash-talking Pinkerton Byron McElroy to rest (for saying bad things about Wade's mother, of course). I think this paints a pretty true picture: everyone loves their mother; rightfully so – none of us would even be here without our mamas, after all.

And if you want to show your mom how much she means to you this Mothers' Day, there's no better way to do it than with a massive and powerful smartphone. Maybe your mom is still stuck in the old days of the flip phone, or worse – maybe she uses an old iPhone.

Sprint's Note II Getting A Small OTA Update To Build L900VPAMC2, Brings A Home Screen Security Update, Other Stuff

Howdy, Sprintsters! If you're a Note II owner, it's time to head into Settings > About Phone > System updates again, as The Now Network is pushing another OTA to the massive handset. It's a small one, with only a couple of fixes in tow:

Build: L900VPAMC2

- Waking a device with the home key incorrectly brings up the Recently Use applications screen

- Home Screen security updates

Exciting, no? At least you'll have a safer home screen and won't have to deal with seeing recent apps when you turn the device on with the home button post-update, though. So that's something.
