Huawei Regional Lead Says Company Is "Doing The Nexus Again This Year," Confusing Everybody

An interview published on South African site GearBurn today has dropped something of a Nexus news bomb, with a statement from Huawei's head of Consumer Business in South Africa that the company is "doing the Nexus again this year." We reached out to Huawei for comment, but have not received a response.

This, of course, has generated a metric ton of confusion. Here is what we know. First: we have no reason to believe HTC's Nexus phones have been cancelled at this time. That would be Marlin and Sailfish, two HTC Nexuses that we first got wind of six months ago.

The method of attack simply relies on sending a series of Class 0 "Flash" messages to the target phone. Flash messages are typically used for emergency or security purposes, appearing on the screen immediately instead of going to the default SMS application.

That's right, we're finally jumping on the rumor train for the next Nexus phone(s?). Today, Android and Me published an article with a rather detailed rumor stemming from a "regular source who has provided accurate information in the past."

Given their confidence, and the specificity of their assertions, we're inclined to put some stock in them. So, what is the rumor? Let me break it down for you.

First, the Optimus G is going to be a Nexus phone. But it's not going to be the only one. According to A&M's source, the annual Nexus flagship program is being dismantled in favor of a more open model.
