When my fellow Android Police writers and editors finally talked me into getting a Nexus 7, I set out to find a case immediately. The Nexus 7 is tough, but I've lost too many phones and tablets to cracked screens and water damage to take chances. At first I investigated Asus' official Nexus 7 case available on the Google Play Store, but a plastic build with no stand turned me off, as did a lack of magnetic sleep function. After wading through quite a lot of options on Amazon, I settled on the Poetic Slimline Portfolio case as a (hopefully) ideal mixture between price, finish, and function.

If you want to update your Nexus 7 to official Android 4.1.2 that started rolling out earlier today but your turn hasn't come yet, you have two options: wait (possibly for a while) or flash it manually. The latter is absolutely safe and lets you bypass the line without any risk whatsoever. Even better - you don't even need to be rooted or running a custom recovery - updating with Jelly Bean and full stock recovery is easier than ever before.

Let's get to it.

Prerequisite: Your Nexus 7 should be running Android 4.1.1 build JRO03D.

Step 1.

Download the JZO54K Android 4.1.2 update zip from Google's servers (32,862,193 bytes, MD5: 1a68f499129ae2ee373806a9cad13174).

Japanese Customer Shares Photos Of A 32GB Nexus 7 That Arrived In A 16GB Nexus 7 Box

Well, that's one way to announce a new device. Today on Twitter, Japanese user @oppese posted two photos of a Nexus 7 tablet. The first photo shows the storage screen displaying 27.58GB of usable space (indicating a 32GB model), and the second shows packaging for a 16GB Nexus 7. We've heard before that some stores are setting up a place for the higher capacity Nexus 7 on their shelves, but it appears this unit was mistakenly sent to a customer ahead of the full launch.

Of course, it's not impossible to fake screenshots like this, but since we already have plenty of leaked info from retailers to corroborate, it's looking more and more like this device is real.

Multiple Online Retail Listings Out 32GB Nexus 7 – Looks Like It's Happening

There have been rumors over the last few weeks that Google and Asus are planning to release a new version of the Nexus 7 with 32GB of storage. We previously saw a screenshot from a Carphone Warehouse inventory computer that included this device. Now we've found not one, not two, but three more online listings for the 32GB Nexus 7. This is looking like a lock, folks.

All three listings have the same part number and two of them have a matching UPC included. None of them have an image, but we all know what a Nexus 7 looks like -- just imagine it with more storage inside.

You know what I hate about the Nexus 7? Nothing. But I dislike the limited amount of storage - 16GB just isn't enough, especially considering the size of games like Horn and The Bard's Tale. What I'd really like to see is a 32GB version of the device, and according to a leaked Carphone Warehouse screenshot that showed up over at Droid Life, that dream may actually come to fruition.

OK, there are actually a couple of things to talk about first, so let's start with the obvious: ZOMG a Nexus 2! That's actually how CW lists the Nexus S, so it's nothing of concern to, well, anyone.

A $99 Nexus 7 Rumor Is Going Around - But Don't Hold Your Breath

It's that time again - rumor time. This one's from our favorite "industry sources" rumor-monger, the venerable Digitimes. They're saying that, according to industry sources, Google is making two new models of the Nexus 7 that are expected to be thinner. Sounds credible.

They're also saying these two new tablets will be priced at $199 and $99, respectively, and will hit the market by the end of 2012.

Listen, we know Digitimes is incredibly hit and miss about this kind of stuff. In fact, we frequently discount a lot of what they publish, because it's usually picture-less, often credited to no-name sources, and littered with conditional language.

PSA: $25 Google Play Credit Promotion For Nexus 7 Ends On September 30th

You might want to get on that before the end of this month (right here), as the $25 Play Store credit promotion Google announced with its slate at Google I/O expires on September 30th. That means you must redeem the promotion before that date by signing into your Nexus 7 with a Google Wallet-linked Google account (that has a credit or debit card on file). Here are the terms indicating as such, emphasis ours:

When I first got my 16GB Nexus 7, it was fast. Probably faster than any other Android device I'd ever used. Everything was fluid, apps launched quickly, and transitioning between open applications was the best experience that I'd ever had on Android.

I was in love.

Then, a couple weeks ago, it inexplicably started to lag. A lot. I had just installed a test build of Horn, so I assumed that had something to do with it and uninstalled the game. After a quick reboot, I expected all would go back to normal. I was wrong.

I checked to see if anything out of the ordinary was running in the background, but found nothing amiss.
