Android devices are a little under-represented in the area of high-end accessories, and when it comes to cases, you can't get much more high-end than Portenzo. But the Nexus 7 has carved itself a nice little niche, and the American case maker has extended its full line of book-style protective coverings to the Nexus 7 2013. With three case styles ranging from $35 to a whopping $145 (more than half as expensive as the base model Nexus 7 itself), these accessories are not for the feint of heart or the light of wallet.

Whether you consider Google's partnership with the KitKat brand a delightful cross-promotional play, a brand sell-out (though officially no money changed hands), or something else entirely, there's no denying both sides have enthusiastically pursued the team-up which promises some lucky winners free Nexus 7 tablets, and Android users the still mysterious Android 4.4 KitKat.

Giving us a break (get it?) from the hype surrounding the next Nexus phone, KitKat recently held a promotion in which contestants need only "have a break" to win a new Nexus 7.

Earlier today we reported that Verizon is currently denying owners of the Nexus 7 2013 LTE model the ability to access new data lines on the company's network. We reached out to a Verizon representative for comment, and here's what we got back:

This is not yet a device that is Verizon 4G LTE certified. We’ll let folks know when its certified.

Since that's a little on the vague side we requested some clarification, and received the following additional response.

Update: Verizon has responded to our inquiry about the Nexus 7 LTE registration issues. A company representative said that the Nexus 7 LTE would be certified for the Verizon network at some point.

That isn't much to go on, but it's certainly promising - it implies that Verizon is at least aware of the problem and taking steps towards upgrading the company's infrastructure to compensate. Of course, it could take any amount of time for Verizon to certify a new, unlocked device for their network (and Verizon isn't exactly known for speedy response when it comes to devices and software).

Earlier today, Google announced that the new LTE Nexus 7 was now available for purchase from the Play Stores in 9 countries: Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, UK, Japan, Korea and U.S. For some reason, the company has neglected to mention Italy, which just got the Devices (Dispositivi) section added to the Play Store for the first time ever.

The only devices available at the moment are all three flavors of the Nexus 7:

The Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 are nowhere to be found, which isn't too surprising considering they're now almost a year old.

Nexus-7-2013

It is time to begin obsessively checking for updates on your 2013 Nexus 7. We're getting a number of reports of a system update to JSS15R hitting devices. Nevermind that there don't appear to be any user-facing changes, and it's only one letter away from the last minor update – this is new software and you must have it immediately, right?

The update clocks in at a whopping 8MB.

With leaks and speculation about the next Nexus phone reaching fever pitch, the Play Store's inventory of Nexus devices is under closer scrutiny than ever.

As of this evening, the Nexus 4's 16GB flavor has joined its 8GB counterpart in "out of inventory" limbo.

When the 8GB variant hit "out of inventory" status, Google told the Verge there were no plans to restock it, despite the promising "please check back soon" following the ominous inventory status.
