White House App Gets Overhauled, Now Supports Tablets, Includes Search And Live Video Functions

Hey, did you guys know there's an election coming soon? I know, it's been a pretty low-profile thing, but it's true. Of course, we want to be a well-informed electorate, right? One source of information that should probably be watched to achieve that goal is the White House. Today, the administration of the most powerful office in the country revealed a newly-designed app that will allow mobile users to watch live presidential events, search its stable of blog posts, videos, and press releases, and in a forward-thinking move, makes all this content available on tablets.

In a rather surprising move from the political arena as a whole (though not unheard of, given the current President's affinity for modern technology), the White House app is actually extremely well designed.

Android 4.0.4 For The Verizon DROID Xyboard 10.1 (11.11.27.MZ617) Is Rolling Out Now

It was only a couple days ago that we heard the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola Xyboard Wi-Fi models would be rolling out. Now, Verizon has announced that the same update for the LTE version of the tablet is about to rollout to customers via an OTA upgrade. The package will be about 336.4 MB, so hope you're on Wi-Fi.

Here are some of the changes you'll see with the upgrade:

Direct Access Lock Screen - The direct access lock screen takes you directly to Camera, Browser, Gallery or Unlock.
Create Folders - Easily create folders by dropping one app on top of another.  You can also add a name to specify the folder contents.

[Whoa!] Google Will Start Down-Ranking Search Results That Receive Too Many Takedown Requests

This may not be strictly Android-related news, but it's safe to say that what Google does to search results is relevant to our readers' interests, no? Today, Google announced via its Inside Search blog that the company will start including the volume of valid copyright removal notices as a factor in determining how high or low a site ranks in its search results. Translation: pirate sites won't be removed entirely, but they'll start ranking lower than legitimate sites.

Pretty soon, sites like the Pirate Bay won't be the #1 search result anymore.

The net effect of this change will likely be very minimal to the more hardcore pirates.

T-Mobile Announces The Galaxy Note Will Arrive On August 8th In Stores And Online

Samsung's largest life raft smartphone has, thus far, been saddled to AT&T. Phret not phablet phans. Your dreams of using the nation's largest Samsung phone on the nation's fourth-largest national carrier are about to come true (sorry Sprint/Verizon users). T-Mobile has announced that the device will be available on a 2-year contract starting August 8th with pricing starting at $199 on a 2-year Value voice and data plans plus an added $20/month device financing charge. Alternatively, the device will cost $250 on a more traditional contract plan.

Today, T-Mobile announced that the Samsung Galaxy Note will be available at select T-Mobile retail stores and online at www.T-Mobile.com starting on August 8.
