When it comes to testing bandwidth throughput of your Android device, the Speedtest.net app is considered a de facto standard - it's functional, the UI is gorgeous, and there is a good chance they have a server pretty close to your location. I've tried all the speed testing programs in the Market, and always kept coming back to this one. For a long time the app has remained unchanged on the Market, lagging behind its iOS counterpart and its shiny new user interface.

We have all been there before - you're running low on space and want to get rid of some apps. Or perhaps you just want to do your device a favor and remove old apps that you no longer use. Sure, the app is gone, but most leave behind unwanted data, taking up precious room on the /data partition, your SD card, or both. Fortunately, XDA member Dark3n has created a app to address such a situation, aptly titled SD Maid.

T-Mobile Samsung Sidekick 4G

While T-Mobile still remains quiet about the Sidekick 4G's release date, it looks like RadioShack just couldn't keep the news any longer. Thanks to a tweet from the official RadioShack Twitter account, we now know that the Sidekick 4G will be available on April 20th. That's pretty exciting news for those looking to grab the newest version of the ever-so-popular texting machine, especially when combined with the $99 (with a two year contract) price tag.

Finding and buying a house can be an overwhelming experience, but fortunately for us, real estate website Trulia have released an Android app to aid the process. The app has some nice features, like using GPS to search nearby areas (you can also manually enter locations). It also allows you to save your favorite places, shows full pictures of homes, helps find open houses and saves them to your calendar, and even utilizes voice recognition – all you have to do is announce the city and number of bed/bathrooms that you’re looking for.

One of the most beloved features of Android has always been its ability to multitask. The limitation, however, is that you can only see one app at a time. That works out great on phones, but with the onslaught of 7, 8.9, and 10.1 inch tablets out there, wouldn’t it be nice to work with more than one app at a time?

That is exactly what Onskreen Inc. thought, so they created a homescreen replacement just for tablets.

Welcome to the weekly roundup of the best new Android applications, games, and live wallpapers that went live in the Market or were spotted by us in the previous week 2 weeks or so. Due to CTIA last week, we decided to postpone last week's roundup and roll all the apps into one big 2-week post.

Get ready - the list is quite massive and may freeze up your browser while loading - I suggest you open up links in new tabs to avoid page reloads.

Droid-life just dropped an exciting informational tidbit for Incredible owners to mull over: the device may be getting the Gingerbread bump some at the end of the second quarter. The upgrade to 2.3 will entail all of the optimizations made to the Android OS since Froyo's release almost a year ago, and hopefully will provide Incredible owners with the newest version of HTC's Sense UI.

The tip came via an email from an HTC rep in response to a customer's help ticket:

Dear Thomas,

I will be happy to assist with your software update inquiry.

One thing I'd like to point out this week - the apps are just getting prettier and prettier. They are no longer those ugly ogre-like beasts we used to see so much, but polished, pretty flowers (I mean, muscle cars, beer, bench press, aww, it's too late now).
