Update: Don't install this app until it gets an update - it will turn your GPS on every 10 seconds to update your location info, and won't stop unless you Force Stop it from the Manage Applications screen. It was at 68% on my phone's battery usage menu after 6 hours of doing little with my phone aside from checking e-mail sporadically. Yuck.

Have you ever wanted an app that aggregates your favorite daily deal and special offer services into a single, location-based list? I certainly have. Oddly enough, T-Mobile has launched just such an app, called "More for Me." We've all seen carrier-branded applications before, like Verizon's VCAST app store (and their veritable crappy cornucopia of other apps), but most of them suck.

While snooping around the Market this afternoon, I ran into Adobe's newly released product called simply Adobe® Content Viewer. With almost no description and usage instructions, I spent about an hour familiarizing myself with Adobe's Digital Publishing Suite which apparently creates content this Content Viewer is supposed to consume (read: display).

So, what does it mean in layman's terms? Content creators, such as magazine and newspaper publishers, use the Digital Publishing Suite to create distributable versions of their products, and the cross-platform (iOS, Android, Blackberry, etc) Content Viewer lets users sign into their Adobe accounts and view digital subscriptions on their mobile platforms of choice.

Surprise, surprise - Rovio's about to issue the next major content update to Angry Birds Rio early! The Carnival update will be available on the Market shortly (exactly how long, we don't know), and we already have the basic changelog:

  • 15 levels in new world named Carnival Upheaval
  • Blue, the Macaw, can now be used alone.
  • The new hidden fruits are papaya (thanks to everyone who helped us figure this out)

There's several iOS sites that are already reporting on the update, and Rovio stated 2 days ago that Carnival would be coming to Android at the same time as iOS:

We'll keep this post updated as we learn more.

For those that use the Charles Schwab Corporation for your banking and brokering needs, you've probably gotten frustrated with the lack of a mobile app at some point in the past. Those frustrations can be a thing of the past now, though, as Schwab has released an official app in the Android Market.

With this app you can manage all of your investments and transfer money between accounts, get real time market quotes, and easily trade stocks, mutual funds, and ETF's.

This is just the initial version of the app, though, and it appears that a lot more is on the way in the future, including mobile deposit, streaming quotes, and branch locator.

This app looks like a more sophisticated implementation of the fine-rained permission control that was added to CyanogenMod last month and both praised and criticized by many.

When you hear a song and don't know what it is, but want to find out, what do you do? Fire up Shazam or SoundHound, of course. But what do you do when you see a video that you're lookin' to identify? Well, there hasn't really been a solution on Android to handle this sort of debacle - until now, that is.

Calling itself the "ultimate video discovery" app, VideoSurf is a direct answer to the iPhone's IntoNow - it can identify videos through audio and video recognition, suggest other videos, and locate other videos using keywords. According the VideoSurf website, there is "no need to open a new application", as it can "play practically any video on the web inside [the] app!" It also offers Facebook and Twitter integration, so you can easily share, Like, or Tweet any video directly from within the VideoSurf app.

Out of all the things that we use smartphones for these days, calls come in pretty close to last. We're too busy texting, taking pictures, surfing the web, getting directions... you get the idea. What if we could incorporate all of these things into our phone calls though? That's exactly what Thrutu aims to do, and the newest update to the app makes most of that possible. Here's a video to get a better idea:

Every feature isn't highlighted in the video, though - it can actually do even more than that. Here's a breakdown of each option, directly from the Market listing:

  • Location: callers can see each other’s position on a map, updating live as they move.

Remember that version of the Wall Street Journal app that was made for Android tablets (but not Honeycomb tablets)? Yeah, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to us, either. Fortunately, the folks over at the WSJ have finally decided to release an app specifically designed for phones.

ss-0-320-480-160-0-6471ff750ba85b1ce1e6c11373787cf26218bd7d ss-1-320-480-160-0-87ae25c09f78bb57b65550ac635de05bb35516b5 ss-2-320-480-160-0-decd6a642c8bcf392acf3e0a4acd8c20295f347a

Now you can access everything that you love about the WSJ from the palm of you hand. Don't have time to read an article as soon as you see it? No worries, the app allows you to save articles so you can read them later. If you're in the giving mood, you can also easily share content through various social networking sites or email.
