In what seems like preparation for their upcoming G2 handset, T-Mobile is planning on clearing out their selection of Android handsets by ending sales of the Motorola Cliq, Cliq XT, and T-Mobile MyTouch 1.2 on October 4.

Whatever the reason, it’s probably a good thing that these low-end handsets are going off the market - hopefully, it will help keep outdated OS's like Cupcake and Donut from growing in size. Unfortunately, this doesn’t help reassure owners of said phones that their updates will come in a timely fashion, if at all. The Cliq and Cliq XT are still on track to receive Android 2.1, while the MyTouch 1.2 should be receiving the update to Android 2.2.

T-Mobile certainly dropped a big hint when the word “Vanguard,” believed to be the codename for the HTC Vision, was discovered all over the source code of their HSPA+ phone teaser page. But, according to a leak from Android Central, this phone might not be the slider we’ve seen before – it could be the next model in the myTouch line.

Called the myTouch 3G HD, the phone appears to have the same button layout as the myTouch 3G Slide, including the Genius Button and trackpad. The screen size can’t be determined, but certainly looks like more than T-Mobile’s previous myTouch offerings.

This doesn’t need much explaining. If you start a new T-Mobile 2 year contract or upgrade and extend your current service contract, you can get the MyTouch 3G for nothing, nada, zilch. Got a frugal friend or family member looking for a cheap smartphone? Look no further. Just check out T-Mobile’s online store page.

T-Mobile has announced a new addition to their line of smartphones, with the introduction of the myTouch 3G Slide. Although we’ve seen it unofficially before now, the press release confirms some interesting software additions to the device, amongst other details.

Running Android 2.1, the myTouch 3G Slide consists of a 3.4-inch HVGA touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for text input. You’ll find a 5 megapixel camera with a flash, so that you can take pictures on the move, and an 8GB microSD card as standard to house all your media and apps.

T-Mobile seems to be rather keen on marketing the device to families, stating how the "myTouch 3G Slide is designed to help families stay connected to their favorite people throughout their busy days", and citing a June release:

Today, T-Mobile announced a new addition to its exclusive line of Android-powered T-Mobile myTouch 3G smartphones - the T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide.  Anticipated to be available in June, the new myTouch 3G Slide combines a roomy slide-out QWERTY keyboard with an incredibly crisp, high-performance touch screen powered by the latest Android software (Android 2.1).  Designed to help families stay connected to their favorite people throughout their busy days, the myTouch 3G Slide offers new, exclusive features, including Faves Gallery, myModes and Genius Button.

We just saw a leaked photo coming from Radio Shack’s Direct2U system showing what appears to be the rumored MyTouch Slide. If you are unfamiliar with what the MyTouch Slide is, rumor has it that it will be the G1’s successor for T-Mobile.

This is the photo, posted back in January, of what has been rumored to be the MyTouch Slide. I already have my reservations in regards to anything I own being named ‘MyTouch’, and I think the addition of ‘Slide’ to the name does not help much. Unfortunately the phone’s overall look is not much better than its name.
