Over the past year or so, HTC devices have become notoriously more difficult to root/mod/S-Off than the devices of yesteryear. When one series of devices gets cracked, the next generation released by HTC has historically been drastically more difficult to crack.

This has been the case for some of the more recent HTC devices; namely the Amaze, Rezound, Sensation/XE, Vivid/Raider/Velocity, And MyTouch 4G Slide. Up until now, a few of those devices have never even received S-Off status. Now, though, thanks to a new method called JuopunutBear by the Unlimited Team, all of the aforementioned phones can become S-Off.

Before attempting to use JuopunutBear, you must unlock your device with HTC's official bootloader unlock tool.

HTC acknowledged the vulnerability in some of its devices that Android Police together with Trevor Eckhart posted Saturday night. The privilege escalation vulnerability currently allows a potentially malicious app that uses only the INTERNET permission to connect to HTC's HtcLoggers service and get access to data far exceeding its access rights. This data includes call history, the list of user accounts, including email addresses, SMS data, system logs, GPS data, and more.

HTC added that a software fix is already in the works and will be pushed to affected devices following a brief testing period (hopefully carriers won't end up delaying the OTA roll-out too much due to additional testing and bureaucracies).

A little more than two weeks ago a revolutionary (pun intended) new unlock and root solution was released by AlphaRev and Unrevoked that provided S-Off and NAND write access to a number of HTC devices. That tool received an update today that adds a number of previously unsupported device to the mix:

  • HTC EVO 3D GSM
  • HTC Thunderbolt
  • HTC EVO 4G running Gingbebread
  • HTC myTouch 4G Slide
  • HTC Droid Incredible 2 running Gingerbread
  • 0.4pre3
    - Fixed support for HTC myTouch 4G Slide (doubleshot) 1.44.0007

  • 0.4pre2
    - Fixed support for HTC Incredible 2 (vivo_w) 0.97.0000, only works on Gingerbread now!

  • 0.4pre1
    - Added support for more devices and expanded/improved support for existing devices

  • Prior to this release, neither the EVO 4G nor Incredible 2 with Gingerbread had received S-Off and root, so these new additions to the Revolution family are welcome ones, to say the least.

The recently-announced HTC myTouch 4G Slide that's set to land on T-Mobile's HSPA+ network sometime this month has already fallen victim to Wirefly's crazy price-slashing mania that they company is so well known for. Right now, you can pre-order the myTouch 4G Slide for $150, which is $50 less than Team Magenta is selling the handset for.

    2011-07-20 09h45_04

The myTouch 4G Slide is HTC's latest entry into the 'superphone' market, with some pretty impressive specs:

    • 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
    • 3.7" SLCD 800 x 480 display
    • 768MB RAM
    • 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash
    • 1080p video capture
    • Full QWERTY keyboard
    • HSPA+ connectivity
    • Android 2.3 with Sense 3.0

While those specs are about as high-end as they come on modern smartphones, they're not the only thing that sets the myTouch 4G Slide apart, as HTC also added some flare to the camera itself:

    • Improved low-light Performance: with a backside illuminated sensor and a wide aperture lens (f/2.2)
    • Zero shutter lag: innovative software features allow for an instantaneous shot at that precise moment
    • SweepShot: for capturing panoramic shots by sweeping across an entire scene in a single motion
    • ClearShot HDR: for capturing objects in bright settings so your photos are not affected by high-contrast lighting
    • BurstShot: for capturing multiple photos in a quick burst so you don’t miss the perfect photo

There you go - if you're into taking awesome pictures with your smartphone and you're lookin' to score the hottest thing on T-Mo, then this is the deal for you.

Get ready, on-the-go photographers - come July 27th, you'll be able to pick up the myTouch 4G Slide, which, according to T-Mobile's presser, will be the best camera phone yet.

As a reminder, the latest iteration in the myTouch series will cost $199.99 with a new two-year contract and will pack:

    • A 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
    • A 3.7" SLCD 800x480 display
    • Android 2.3 with Sense 3.0
    • An 8-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and 1080p video capture
    • A full QWERTY keyboard
    • "4G" (HSPA+) connectivity

You'll be able to pre-order the device starting July 19th, and while we're not so sure about that 3.7-inch WVGA display, we doubt that'll stop you if you're serious about great keyboards or mobile picture-taking.

Although not the best-kept secret over at T-Mobile, the latest entry in their myTouch series is still very impressive. Specs-wise, it is able to easily compete with the recently-released Sensation, but still has a few interesting software tricks up its sleeves:

    • 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
    • 3.7" SLCD 800 x 480 display
    • Android 2.3
    • Sense 3.0
    • 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash
    • 1080p video capture
    • Full QWERTY keyboard
    • HSPA+ connectivity

While the 8 megapixel camera isn't unheard of among high-end smartphones, T-Mobile wants you to know that the 4G Slide is still easily capable of replacing your camera because the software features included.
