No Multitouch For XPERIA X10 Mini And Mini Pro Either - Is Sony Ericsson Ever Going To Listen To What Its Customers Want?

You know the drama with the XPERIA X10 multitouch support? The one where it was supposedly possible, then not, then possible again, then refuted for good?

X10 Mini/Mini Pro Multitouch

Well, the recently announced little brothers of the X10 - the Mini and the Mini Pro, will not be getting multitouch either, as confirmed by the official Sony Ericsson blog.

Single handed operation seems to be the theme throughout their whole post, insisting that even though the users clearly want multitouch, the devices are better without it (who are the users to dictate what's better, eh?):

Surprise! No Multitouch For The Xperia X10 And That’s Final!

As the title states, it has just come to light that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will not be getting multitouch as was previously mentioned. In fact at first it was stated it would not be getting multitouch, then it was and now, yet again, it is not and that is the final word on it.

It seems that some companies are really having trouble relaying information these days.

Final Word On Multitouch

Sony Ericsson's Communications Manager Harold de Kort gives the final word about multitouch and the Xperia X10:

Multi-touch will not be a feature in future updates for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 because the device does not support multi-touch due to her software and hardware configuration.

Sony Ericsson To Keep X10 Relevant With Multi-touch And 2.1

Sony Ericsson generated plenty of hype with the leaked screenshots and videos of its 'Rachel' UI on top of the Android operating system, but managed to stem the excitement a bit when it was revealed that it would be based on top of Android 1.6.

X10 fans can rejoice though, because according to the blog mobiles.co.uk, a Sony Ericsson rep told them that users can expect a 'very big update' in the second half of 2010.

Mobiles.co.uk has taken that to mean that yes, the phone will receive 2.1 with multi-touch enabled. I, as usual, remain a bit skeptical, due to the fact that the Sony has said in the past that the hardware is not capable of handling multi-touch.

Yesterday, Verizon released the Motorola Droid 2.1 update schedule which turned out to be so drawn out that by the end of it, we would have seen Android 5.0 (OK, not really but it could take 2-3 weeks).
