Sunshine 3.0 Released With Ability To Unlock And S-Off Many Motorola And Almost All HTC Handsets

If you're going to do any serious modding on your Android smartphone, your first step is going to be unlocking the bootloader. This is a simple procedure on Nexus devices and a few other handsets, but many of the top OEMs have added security measures to prevent regular users from mucking about with their stock software. For these devices, there's a tool called Sunshine by recognized developers Justin Case (jcase), beaups, and friends.

Lenovo CEO Allegedly Leaks A Possible Follow-Up To The Moto 360, Complete With Exposed Lugs... And The Same 'Flat Tire' Screen

You knew it was coming. With the Moto 360 being easily the most exciting Android Wear device from the initial video almost exactly a year ago, and then being something of a disappointment upon release thanks to its ancient chipset and not-really-360-degree "round" screen, a follow-up was inevitable. It looks like an executive from Lenovo (the new owners of Motorola Mobility) may have let the cat out of the bag on the company's next Android Wear smartwatch.

Motorola Engineer Says Verizon's DROID Turbo Will Jump Straight From KitKat To Lollipop 5.1

The DROID Turbo is a beast of a phone, combining the over-the-top specs of the Nexus 6 with the more manageable size of the Moto X and throwing in a huge battery for good measure. The only downer is that it's available exclusively from Verizon... which doesn't have the best track record for Android updates. Despite the fact that the Moto X 2014 has been running Lollipop since November, even on Verizon, and the de-branded Moto Maxx for international markets also has Lollipop, the DROID Turbo is still forlornly running KitKat.

[Deal Alert] Motorola Is Giving Away A Free 3G Moto E With The Purchase Of Every Moto X 2014 Pure Edition Until March 24th

Motorola figures that if you're buying a brand new Moto X Pure Edition, you could probably find a use for a 3G Moto E as well. It's a great phone to give to a family member, especially as a starter phone. If nothing else, you could use it as a test device or keep it lying in a drawer somewhere as a backup.

So the company is currently offering a free 2nd generation Moto E to anyone who buys a 2014 Moto X Pure Edition.

CyanogenMod 12 Nightly Build Now Available For The Moto G 2014

Motorola's G series became a hit almost instantly thanks to solid build quality, clean software, and a fantastic bang-to-buck ratio. The second-gen version is no exception, and its upgraded hardware has also caught the eye of the enthusiast and aftermarket community. Though the standard model of the Moto G 2014 already has Android 5.0 (at least in some places), owners now have the option of installing the CyanogenMod custom ROM.

New Android 5.1 Build, LMY47E, Surfaces For Nexus 6, Probably Won't Go Out To Existing Devices

As Nexus 6 owners well know, Android 5.1 / LMY47D just started rolling out to devices recently. It appears, however, that Motorola has an even more recent firmware available, build LMY47E. Further, the official filename has "VRZ" in the title, hinting that this newer build may ship on devices that are sold by Verizon. We won't know for sure until Big Red starts sending the devices out next week.

Moto 360 Moto Maker Goes Live, Lets You Pick And Choose Whichever Existing Parts You Want Off The Shelf

Moto Maker makes ordering a Moto X different from picking up any other smartphone. You get to customize the handset to suit your own peculiar tastes, even if that means picking an appalling color pattern and nonsensical engraving that all but guarantee you won't be able to sell the thing at any point in the future.

Now, right on schedule, Motorola has brought the experience to the Moto 360. The options don't quite compare to those available for the company's flagship phone, but Moto Maker does let you mix and match between the various pre-existing components already available.
