During the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference yesterday, Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha said, “I will only develop a tablet if it is sufficiently compelling. Hopefully, that is early next year.” In fact, according to his comments, it seems that they haven't even started development of a tablet yet.

This doesn't quite jibe with what we've heard before. In mid-August, word around the 'net was that a Motorola tablet device was coming to Verizon sometime in November. The next day, rumor had it that Moto was working directly with Google on a 10.1" Android 3.0 tablet. We're talking separate rumors here, not one stemming from another.

It's no secret that Verizon loves Android, so it shouldn't be a surprise that it's featured heavily in a leaked roadmap.

Yesterday, BGR confirmed the Droid Pro, Droid 2 World Edition, and Motorola Tablet, and now PhoneArena is reporting that they have a "trusty source" inside Verizon that has given them a sneak peek at the device release schedule for the rest of the year.

Let's start with September: we "should" see the Droid 2 World Edition released, and it will be the first Android phone to support both GSM and CDMA networks. Of course, Android isn't just for us nerds, and therefore it's reasonable to assume that Verizon wants Android devices in the hands of as many people as possible, even if those people only pay them $50 or so upfront.

The custom used to be to release two, maybe three, at most four, new flagship smartphones every summer. Now, it appears that the custom is to release as many as possible, as soon as possible. And this latest batch of leaks indicates that Verizon and Motorola have no plans to change that anytime soon.

Droid 2 World Edition

First up for inspection, we have a screenshot of an internal document suggesting that a device with the model number A956 is in the works and will come in both black and white. What's more, according to BGR, this device will be a more business-centered edition of the Droid 2 and will have a World Edition global roaming feature.
