Like many technophiles, I have a soft spot for wireless audio gear. While cord-free is moving in the direction of Wi-Fi and mesh networks at home, the world of portable gear still belongs to Bluetooth. Earbuds, headphones, portable speakers - they're all different, and so far none I've tested are perfect. Once I find the perfect one in each category, I'll be sure to let you know.

A few months ago, I reviewed the MEElectronics Air-Fi AF32 - a full-size over-the-ear set of wireless headphones that ended up scoring surprisingly well while at the same time not breaking the bank.

Most earbuds are designed for use while mobile; after all, they're inherently more portable and discrete than headphones. But not all of them are made for heavy activity. Ever try running or hitting the gym with most off-the-shelf 'buds? I have, for years. It's usually not an enjoyable experience. They need to meet some pretty specific criteria:

  1. The earbuds need to stay put at all times. Any regular fitness fan will tell you that getting in a sort of rhythm is pretty important, and it's nigh-impossible to do so if you're stopping every few minutes to fix your earbuds.

A few days ago, Artem went in-depth with the MEElectronics Air-Fi AF32 Bluetooth headphones, and, for the most part, he loved them. They're sleek, sexy, functional, comfortable, and they provide good audio quality (what more can you ask for?). What makes these headphones exceptionally cool, though, is the six-button controller. But I'm not going to dish all of the details here - I encourage you to read the full review.

I'm a big fan of cutting the cord. But this time I'm not talking about cancelling your cable and moving your Judge Judy marathons online - I'm all about going wireless in the audio department. Wireless speakers, wireless streaming, and, of course, wireless portable audio.

My Previous Bluetooth Daily Driver - Sony HBH-IS800

Up until a few weeks ago, I was using Sony's HBH-IS800, which deserves a separate review of its own if I ever get to it.

This article was written by a guest writer, Mikhail Lifshits, better known as ljokerl over at head-fi.org. Mikhail is an audiophile to the bone - a single look at his forum user page will leave you wondering if there is a pair of earbuds Mikhail hasn't owned or tried yet.

Today’s smartphones are quickly absorbing the functions of other portable devices - PDAs, portable GPS units, and standalone MIDs are a thing of the past - and conventional MP3 players may be next on the cutting block.
