PinOut is a modern and retro, vibrant and dark, take on Pinball from the makers of Smash Hit

You think you know pinball, right? There are hundreds of variations on the game, thousands of themed layouts to freshen up the experience, and millions of dollars in IAPs to unlock this ball or that theme or that bonus. But PinOut is different, and the first sign is that it comes from the same guys that gave us Smash Hit, Does Not Commute, Granny Smith, and other beautifully and thoughtfully designed games: Mediocre.

Unlike what their name might make you expect, Mediocre's games are fantastic and PinOut is no exception. Somehow, the game is both dark in its environment yet vibrant with its neon colors, both retro in its music and menus yet modern with its 3D graphics and layered platforms.

Does Not Commute Careens Into The Play Store, Crashes Into Three Cars In The Process

Everyone is trying to get someplace in Does not Commute from Mediocre, the developer of titles like Smash Hit and Sprinkle. It's a "strategic driving" sim where you must maneuver everyone through the city with a minimum of accidents/fatalities. If a game about commuting sounds stuffy, rest assured Does not Commute is quite amusing.

[New Game] Mediocre's Smash Hit Arrives In Google Play, Frees Your Inner Vandal

The folks at game developer Mediocre have given us such classics as Sprinkle and Granny Smith, but now it's time to break some stuff. Smash Hit has come to Android with neat physics and compelling gameplay. It's a good opportunity to get some of that aggression out too.

Smash Hit is equal parts on-rails shooter and physics simulation. You coast along, approaching various glass barriers. You have to tap to launch balls that break the glass to clear your path. If you run into something, you lose some ammo, but you can pick more up by breaking special glass cones throughout the game.

[New Game] From The Maker Of Sprinkle Comes 'Granny Smith', A Hilarious Physics Based Racer

I'm not sure why in God's name a thief would want to steal apples from a helpless old lady, but that's exactly what's going on in Mediocre's new game Granny Smith. Not one to let the bad guy win, though, the old bat throws on her skates and goes after the madman. Those are some pretty important apples.

As made clear from the gameplay trailer, this is a physics based racer and appears to use a similar control method to Mediocre's other game, Puddle. Featuring 36 levels in three different settings, Granny Smith brings some interesting three-dimensional visuals, good use of physics, and simple two-button controls to both tablets and smartphones.

[New Game Review] Sprinkle HD Looks To Drench Lesser Puzzle Games With Its Awesome Water Physics

Some of my favorite mobile games for the mobile platform are of the puzzle genre, because it tends to lend itself well to the array of controls that are provided. A new THD game that just landed in the Market today, however, combines simple controls and some quirky physics to give you a unique puzzling experience.

In Sprinkle, you are put in charge of a small village's fire department, who are in turn in charge of extinguishing fires that are caused by falling meteorites. Since the citizens of this village live in thatched-room huts (despite having the technology for a high-powered hose), you can imaging that fire is pretty bad for them.

[Review] The LG Revolution: Don't Let The Name Fool You; It's Just Alright

It's been a long time since my opinions on a device have been so torn. On the one hand, the Revolution is a pretty impressive piece of hardware, but on the other, there are some seriously annoying things about it (specifically some software elements - the lock screen makes me want to assault something adorable). All the handset's different aspects ultimately lead to one conclusion: MEH.

I can honestly say that this is the closest to not having an opinion I've ever come in regards to a device. Seriously, I'm EXTREMELY neutral here. More neutral than you, that's for sure. Let's see why:

Specs and Such

  • 4G LTE
  • 1GHz Snapdragon Processor
  • Android 2.2 (Froyo)
  • 5MP Rear Camera
  • 1.3MP Front Facing Camera
  • 720p HD Video Recording
  • Mobile Hotspot Capability
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • 16GB SD card pre-installed and 16GB of internal memory

Doesn't sound too bad, does it?
