WhatsApp is testing sharing media files as large as 2 GB with beta users
The tests are limited — for now
WhatsApp is trying new things lately, like a beta test of message reactions and features to let users have better control over recording voice messages. Not everyone gets a chance to work with such new tools, as most messaging and social platforms want to make sure they've got all the bugs worked out before a major app change rolls out to everyone. That's the case with another new beta WhatsApp feature we just learned about, the ability to send media files as large as 2 GB.

The alternative ways, however, don't come without a few downsides
WhatsApp is used every day by billions of people around the world to send millions of supremely paramount memes and cat videos. Those little media files may work well to lighten up your mood on a boring workday, but they are immensely stressful for WhatsApp servers. That’s why the messaging app heavily compresses those files to save some bandwidth and reduce loading times for its users.
When talking to a contact on Google's upcoming Allo messaging application, there are a few different types of attachments you can send. We've already discussed voice messages and stickers, but you can also share your current location, a photo or video taken instantly with your camera, and also media files taken from your camera roll. Unfortunately, sending other types of files like music or documents doesn't seem to be possible - at least not with the test preview version of the app that we're basing this information on.
