Kairosoft Releases "Dungeon Village" In Typical 16-Bit Fashion, But With New Quasi-RPG Goodness

If you've ever taken a look at the top Android games (or if you just follow Android news closely), you've almost certainly heard of Kairosoft before. They're the developer behind major hits like Game Dev Story and Grand Prix story. Now the company is back with a new title: Dungeon Village.

The game looks quite similar to the other titles, but they seem to think it has a bit of an RPG flair to it (though we can't figure out how):

eBay Releases Half.com App, Allows You To Browse, Buy, Search, And Scan Barcodes From The Comfort Of Your Android Device

Popular game, book, and textbook site Half.com (owned and operated by eBay) now has an official app, and as with just about every other shopping app, it allows you to browse the virtual store shelves, search for specific items, and place orders. It also includes a nifty barcode scanner to help make sure you snag the right item (and don't get ripped off... *ahem* college bookstores).

With the Half.com Android application you can buy media titles in books, textbooks, movies, music, games and game systems - anytime, anywhere.

Get the best price for next semester's classes by using the barcode scanner to search for textbook titles and have them shipped right to your door.

[Rumor] Sprint Adds Los Angeles To List Of Planned Network Vision/LTE Markets For 2012

Just a few days after allegedly adding its NYC market to the list of 2012 LTE rollout locations, Sprint has evidently begun planning to light up the Los Angeles Metro area by the end of 2012 as well.

Sprint's Los Angeles Metro market currently spans all of Los Angeles County, including Avalon and Santa Catalina. According to S4GRU, Orange County, North LA, Riverside/San Bernardino, San Diego, and Lower Central Valley are included in different markets, and are expected to deploy some time after Los Angeles.

S4GRU also notes that while converting the necessary sites to Network Vision standards will take over 8 months, individual sites will be activated on a monthly basis, meaning customers who purchase Sprint's first round of 4G LTE-enabled devices will still have a chance of enjoying enhanced data speeds.

Temple Run Officially Announces Its Android Plans: Not In February, But Soon, Watch Facebook For Updates

If you've downloaded anything Temple Run-related from the Android Market, you've been scammed. We do our best to keep you informed, but this app in particular seems to spark a lot of fakes. Thankfully, Imangi Studios, the developer behind Temple Run, announced on their Facebook page that the app isn't out yet, but when it is the company will announce it at least a week in advance.

The sheer number of scam apps that have been appearing in the Android Market is astounding. However, none of them are legit. Here's the word from Temple Run's official Facebook page:

For the impatient: no, it's not out yet, yes everything on the Market claiming to be related to Temple Run is a scam, and you will have at least a week's notice from Temple Run's official Facebook page before the game comes out.

One of the biggest restrictions that we face as Android users is "device incompatibility" issues in the Market, even though the app in question may work perfectly on our device. For example, according to the Android Market, Plants Vs. Zombies is "incompatible" with my Galaxy Tab 10.1; however, when it was initially released to the Amazon Appstore (and before Popcap was bought by EA), I always played it on the Tab. Case in point: it isn't "incompatible" with the Tab 10.1, EA just chose to list it as such (no surprise there).

This type of thing happens far too often, be it due to device restrictions or regional discrepancies.

Privacy is a good thing in the digital world - you'll get no argument from me. I don't like my data floating around in cyberspace without my consent, but I also realize that much of what makes the internet (and computing generally) so great is that I can use my own judgment to decide who I will and will not trust with my information.

Things like app permissions, which have been a part of the Android package installation process for quite some time, are nice, but let's face it: 95% of us don't read them. And if we do, we may not even be sure what those permissions really entail, or how the app will use those permissions to gather information, or even what kind of information will actually be collected.

As was the case with the previous tablet edition, tablet-only apps are a dying breed, as almost every app works on tablets to a degree and with ICS, this distinction is now even further washed out. I will likely stop the tablet series in the future and go back to apps/games as it's becoming superfluous.
