The DROID BIONIC, it's no secret, hasn't been launched bug-free. In fact, there's a number of bugs, particularly the dreaded data connection drop, that make using the BIONIC a major annoyance at times. Verizon has apparently been keeping track, and has a very detailed list of the glitches currently afflicting the phone, given to a customer in a support e-mail (weird, we know). The good folks over at Droid-life have compiled a "Top 10" bug list along with all the reported issues (here), and we've excerpted a few that we've noticed most:
Even though the HTC EVO 4G is now well over a year old, it holds a special place in Sprint's heart, and because of that (and you know, the fact that it's the most popular Android phone on the network), the company seems committed to providing us with timely updates. A new maintenance update with version number 4.53.651.1 and the following changes and fixes is next up for the OG 4.3" pioneer that changed the smartphone world:
HTC EVO Software Update - 4.53.651.1
Enhancements/Fixes:
- Integrated voice recognition accuracy with voice search and voice-to-text
- Image size issue with contact transfer over bluetooth
- Images cut off in Picasa
- Group contacts not in alphabetical order
- Out of memory, Unable to send SMS
The update should be rolling out over the next 1-2 weeks starting now.
We just received an email from Android Market Support letting us know that Google Checkout will be down for scheduled maintenance from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM PDT today. During this outage, you will still be able to see paid apps in the Market, but you won't be able to buy anything. So... if you were planning on dropping hundreds of dollars in the Market during the aforementioned hours today, you should probably get started a bit early... or wait until later. Your call.
Here's a copy of the email that we got, just in case you're interested in seeing it verbatim.
From Chingy and TeamAndIRC comes Maintenance Release 2 for the HTC Thunderbolt. The OTA update should be hitting stock phones on June 15th, but we're giving it to you early.
The major improvements brought about by MR2:
- Fixes random reboots
- Improves GPS locking
- Improves signal strength
- Add 3G/LTE toggle in settings
- And more... (we don't have an official changelog yet, unfortunately)
Un-rooted Stock MR2 Update
First up, the full, signed RUU. (This is NOT the same as a simple OTA - it is a full "image" of a phone running the new MR2 update) This is for you developers or stock users who wish to get the update early.
As a registered Android developer, today I, along with thousands of other devs, got the following email from the Android Market Support team. The email informed me that the developer console, which is the interface used for publishing new apps, will be unavailable this Thursday, November 18th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST. The customer-facing Market itself will continue working just fine (or so I hope at least), but no new applications or app updates will be allowed.
Now, what could this update be for? It could be as simple as the promised Market housekeeping that was announced 5 days ago, although it seemed far less serious, and I got the impression that it did not require any downtime.
For some time, the Droid Eris on Verizon Wireless has had a bug that causes the user to be unable to hear the person on the other end during a phone call, and/or be heard by said person. A member of the Verizon Wireless forums, after receiving Maintenance Release 4, is reporting that the issue appears to have been resolved with the patch.

The update comes OTA and will reach most users in the coming weeks; however, you can download a signed zip from Google directly as well to get the fix right now.
- Download: Droid Eris Maintenance Release 4
To install, place the file on the root of your SD card, reboot your phone into recovery mode, and use the install update button; your Eris should automatically find the file and proceed to flash the update.
