The last update to NVIDIA's Android-powered SHIELD game machine was only a month ago, but there's another one waiting in the wings. Since SHIELD is already running the latest version of Android, this is a maintenance update, but NVIDIA seems to be sending the full software image (460 megabytes) anyway. SHIELD users should see it pop up on their screens sometime today - make sure you're near a speedy WiFi access point before you begin. Read More
Update: It looks like a similar update is also being sent out for the DROID 4. The same roaming and data fixes are mentioned on Moto's support page.
Good news, Verizon Motorola DROID RAZR users: there's a new update coming your way. Bad news: it's not KitKat, or any kind of Android version upgrade. Nope, this is a humble maintenance update, meant to address a few niggling bugs and nothing more. Read More
The DROID BIONIC, it's no secret, hasn't been launched bug-free. In fact, there's a number of bugs, particularly the dreaded data connection drop, that make using the BIONIC a major annoyance at times. Verizon has apparently been keeping track, and has a very detailed list of the glitches currently afflicting the phone, given to a customer in a support e-mail (weird, we know). The good folks over at Droid-life have compiled a "Top 10" bug list along with all the reported issues (here), and we've excerpted a few that we've noticed most:
1. Issue: 4G/3G Service – Data Connectivity
- Marginal 4G to 3G transition: Loss of data connectivity – The device may display 3G service indication but no data connections are possible.
Even though the HTC EVO 4G is now well over a year old, it holds a special place in Sprint's heart, and because of that (and you know, the fact that it's the most popular Android phone on the network), the company seems committed to providing us with timely updates. A new maintenance update with version number 4.53.651.1 and the following changes and fixes is next up for the OG 4.3" pioneer that changed the smartphone world:
HTC EVO Software Update - 4.53.651.1
- Integrated voice recognition accuracy with voice search and voice-to-text
- Image size issue with contact transfer over bluetooth
- Images cut off in Picasa
- Group contacts not in alphabetical order
- Out of memory, Unable to send SMS
The update should be rolling out over the next 1-2 weeks starting now. Read More

During this outage, you will still be able to see paid apps in the Market, but you won't be able to buy anything. So... if you were planning on dropping hundreds of dollars in the Market during the aforementioned hours today, you should probably get started a bit early... Read More

As a registered Android developer, today I, along with thousands of other devs, got the following email from the Android Market Support team. The email informed me that the developer console, which is the interface used for publishing new apps, will be unavailable this Thursday, November 18th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. PST. The customer-facing Market itself will continue working just fine (or so I hope at least), but no new applications or app updates will be allowed. Read More
For some time, the Droid Eris on Verizon Wireless has had a bug that causes the user to be unable to hear the person on the other end during a phone call, and/or be heard by said person. A member of the Verizon Wireless forums, after receiving Maintenance Release 4, is reporting that the issue appears to have been resolved with the patch.
The update comes OTA and will reach most users in the coming weeks; however, you can download a signed zip from Google directly as well to get the fix right now. Read More
