OnePlus always used flagship specs in its devices, even when its phones were undercutting the competition's price. The days of "flagship killers" are long gone, but the company still chooses high-end processors each year. In theory, that should make the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro some of the fastest phones you can buy today — indeed, our reviews say basically the same thing — but it turns out that many applications are being held back from reaching peak performance.A new report from Anandtech dives deep into determining whether or not the OnePlus 9 Pro's benchmarks match real-world usage, and unfortunately, the answer seems to be a hard no. While OxygenOS allows benchmarking apps to reach full performance using its Snapdragon 888, OnePlus has included a blacklist of popular apps from the Play Store, all of which are prevented from taking full advantage of the phone's power. The report speculates it's an attempt to deliver improved battery life — a failure, if our review is anything to go by.
AT&T now says it won't get rid of 5Ge logo in status bar, doubles down on lying to customers

In a decision related to a complaint initially filed by T-Mobile, the National Advertising Review Board finally said what we all knew about AT&T's dumb "5Ge" branding from the get go: it's bullshit. AT&T is choosing to comply with the industry self-regulatory body, sort of: (over an issue, let us not forget, that it bitterly contested in an actual lawsuit) it says it will stop saying 5Ge, marketing 5Ge, but that it won't stop using the 5Ge logo in your status bar, because AT&T will do everything possible to weasel out of admitting that displaying a "5Ge" symbol when your phone is definitively not connected to a 5G NR network is and always was a lie. A big lying lie, told by liars, who lie (read: the marketing division). The update regarding the status bar icon came this afternoon in a statement given to Light Reading, with the carrier saying it would not change the 5Ge logo back to 4G or some other term, and that it would continue to be displayed.

You know who everyone hates? Liars. Nobody likes being promised something, only to have it taken away without explanation. At launch, Motorola advertised Android N and O updates for the Moto G4 line, but to the shock of many G4 owners, none of these phones were listed in the company's official Oreo update list. In fact, all mention of this promise has been wiped away. Motorola, this is bullshit.
