Sprint Is Buying 100% Of Clearwire For $2.2bn, Will Invest $80m Per Month For 10 Months While Deal Awaits Approval

Today, Sprint announced that it would be spending $2.2bn to acquire the remaining (roughly) half of Clearwire that it doesn't already own. The transaction, which is naturally subject to regulatory approval, will give the carrier ownership of all of Clearwire's significant share of spectrum, which will be a huge boost to Sprint as it attempts to build out an LTE network to compete with Verizon and AT&T.

Of course, these deals can take forever to close, so in the meantime, the two companies have entered into a rather brilliant agreement: Sprint has promised to buy roughly $80m worth of Clearwire stock every month starting in January 2013 for up to ten months (or a total of $800m, and slightly more than 1/3rd of the total Clearwire purchase price).

Everything Everywhere Offers The First LTE Tablet In The UK: Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1

Say what you will about the sorry state of broadband in the US, we were one of the first to have large-scale LTE networks available to the public. It took about a year for mainland Europe to catch up, and the UK is still in the very early stages of getting their high-speed networks started. Everything Everywhere (EE) has taken the lead on the tablet front, offering the very first LTE tablet to United Kingdom wireless users: Samsung's Galaxy Note 10.1.

Verizon Flipping The Switch On 4G LTE In Multiple Markets Out West On December 20

It can be hard to hear how speedy and wonderful Verizon's 4G LTE is when there isn't a 4G tower within 100 miles of your home. Well, that's about to change for some lucky folks in the western half of the US come December 20. Big Red continues to creep closer to a 100% overlay with its 3G network all the time.

Verizon's Galaxy Camera Will Go On Sale For $550 On Dec. 13th, Shared Data Plan For $5 Per Month Promo Price

AT&T has already launched its version of the Galaxy Camera, so now it's Verizon's turn. Arriving in both white and black options, the nation's largest carrier will be offering the high tech point and shoot for $550 without a contract. This is a little bit steeper than AT&T's $500, but to make up for it, the carrier is allowing customers to add this device to their existing shared data plans for $5/month.

Some Enterprising XDA Users Get LTE Working On The Nexus 4 For AT&T In The U.S. - On One Band In Few Markets

Before you get too excited, let's start with the disclaimers. For starters, while yes, some users over on XDA managed to get LTE service working in very select AT&T markets, this probably won't work in your area. Also, this is not the intended use of your phone, so if you're not comfortable screwing with radios on your phone, you should probably skip the whole freaking out thing.

[Deal Alert] Get $50 Off Kindle Fire HD 8.9" Wi-Fi Or LTE With Amazon's Gold Box Deal Of The Day Coupon

Amazon's Gold Box deals are some of my favorite discounts to check out every morning. In fact, outside of the Gold Box, the only other deal destinations I regularly visit are Amazon-owned MyHabit and TouchOfModern, a site full of inspiration and ultramodernism.

But back to the deal. If you've been eying Amazon's latest Kindle Fire HD 8.9" tablet (remember all those holidays that are coming at us fast?), today's Gold Box deal of the day should most definitely make it easier to pull the trigger.

Samsung Galaxy Axiom Quietly Lands On US Cellular LTE, With Google Wallet In Tow

Well hello there, Galaxy Axiom - where have you been hiding? We spotted it on Google's Wallet support site, and this budget LTE phone seems to have been slipped into the lineup of US Cellular without the carrier or Samsung itself making much of a fuss. What's even more interesting is that it's certified for Google Wallet, since US Cellular is blissfully without an ISIS-flavored conflict of interest when it comes to mobile payments.

It Turns Out That The Nexus 4 Does, In Fact, Support LTE... But Only In Canada (For Now, At Least)

What a wild ride the Nexus 4 has been on. First, there was an insane storm that caused Google to cancel the announcement event. Then they announced it anyway, and there was unspeakable rage at the lack of LTE. But, it sold out in like 28 minutes or some similar number, so maybe people weren't really that mad after all. Then it was backordered for lots of people, and they were all mad again.
