LauncherPro v0.8.5 With Skinnable Widgets, Improved Performance, and Reduced Memory Usage Now In The Market

Last week, LauncherPro's Federico Carnales launched a beta version of the new LP Plus with skinnable widget support, and this update, tagged 0.8.5, made its way into the Market as of this morning. Skins can be downloaded and installed as regular Android apps from the Market or from 3rd party websites (sorry, AT&T users) and then applied to LauncherPro Plus (you need the Plus edition to have widgets).

Besides skins, the new version brings reduced memory usage, improved scrolling performance, and calendar widget daylight savings bug fixes.

As always, you can grab the latest version from the Market or the official LauncherPro site.

Launcher Pro Updated With Homescreen Transition Effects [Video]

Launcher Pro, my favorite launcher replacement, got updated today with a much requested feature - homescreen transition animations, available to all LP users, not just Plus. In addition to the usual and very smooth slide effect, we now have 4 more: Scale, Rotate, Flip, and Cube. All are smooth, except for the Cube transition, so I would advise against using it until Fede makes it a bit more snappy. Out of 5 transitions (including the regular slide), my favorite is definitely Flip. What's yours?

Launcher Pro v0.8.2 Brings Virtual Homescreen Looping, Recent Apps Dock Popup

Launcher Pro, one of the greatest Android homescreen replacements (Sense who?), received an update today with 2 excellent new features: virtual homescreen looping and a Recent Apps dock popup.

The virtual looping feature enables scrolling past the leftmost or rightmost homescreens with a quick bounce-to-the-opposite-end effect. While Fede implemented it this way instead of an endless scroll for technical reasons, I think it's visually a lot better and clearer, as you will still know when you've reached the end and won't feel lost in your own homescreen forest.

Joining SMS, missed calls, and bookmarks, the 2nd feature is a new swipe gesture dock popup called Recent Apps.

Tip: Launcher Pro And ADW Users - Drag And Hold Your Apps Over The Trashcan To Quickly Uninstall Them

Today's tip is common sense to those Launcher Pro/ADW users who are aware of it and pure bliss to those who aren't. Normally, if you drag an icon on your homescreen to the trashcan, the icon simply gets removed from the given homescreen. However, if you keep holding it over the basket, the action turns into "Drop to uninstall," becoming the fastest way to remove apps that I can think of. To sweeten things up a bit, you can also drag icons into the basket from the launcher, achieving the same murderous effect. It literally takes 1 click to get to the uninstall screen without requiring any extra programs or menu walking.
