Those who know me or follow me on Google+ know that I love Mass Effect. Actually, that may be a bit of an understatement; I've had 4 characters that played every single mission and side-mission in both the first and second game, and I just finished the trilogy a few days ago. And now, I have a new way to show my love: with a new Mass Effect 3 live wallpaper (LWP) from NVIDIA and BioWare.

What makes this particular wallpaper "live"? Two things: the reapers falling down from the sky (those meteor-looking things you see in the shots above), and the scrolling - no matter your system scroll speed, it moves a little slower and more rubber-bandy.

March Madness officially begins tomorrow (March 13), and before all is said and done on April 2, a whopping 67 games will have been played. It's tough to keep up with the sheer number of games going on, but it just got a whole lot easier thanks to the fresh-on-the-market official app, NCAA March Madness Live.

The app is free, and offers an impressive list of features:

- Live game radio of all 67 games
- Live social chatter for teams in every game
- Fill out your official NCAA Bracket Challenge bracket right from your Android
- Track the entire bracket live throughout the tournament
- Get alerts for upsets, overtimes, crunch time (close games), and your favorite teams
- Post directly to Facebook and Twitter
- Use My Channels to see where each game is on all four networks – TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV

You can also upgrade the package in-app for $3.99, which allows you to:

- Watch the NCAA Basketball Selection Show live on Sunday, March 11
- Watch LIVE streaming of all 67 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament games
- Watch a live stream of team practices for the Final Four®
- Watch highlights of all 67 games; highlights available right after each game

Starting Sunday (February 26), the world's biggest dedicated mobile technology conference will kick off in Barcelona, Spain - Mobile World Congress 2012. Tens of thousands of journalists, exhibitors, and booth girls, along with millions of business cards and promotional knick-knacks, will swarm the provincial capital of Catalonia like a Baskin Robins on Free Scoop Night. Countless tons of tapas and sangria will be consumed. Few hours of sleep will be had. And most importantly, hundreds of new and exciting Android devices, apps, and accessories will be unveiled. That's where we step in.

In fact, it's fully likely that MWC 2012 will outdo CES in terms of new Android device goodness, because the whole event is centered around all things mobile.

Generally speaking (and apparently like most Android owners), I love the idea of live wallpapers, but in practice, the cost (on the phone, not the wallet) is too high to stomach in return for a bit of show. For quite some time (probably about 6 months of my nearly 2 years with Android), though, I ran the absolutely awesome Mario Live Wallpaper. Until recently, that is - after roughly 3 months straight with it, I switched to a static wallpaper (specifically, this one) once more.

Until today, that is; this morning, I found an awesome new live wallpaper when the dev shared it on reddit.

This is the latest in our Weekend Poll series. For last week's, see Do You Use An Antivirus App On Your Android Device?

That Android supports live wallpapers (LWPs) is a cool feature, no doubt about it. But to many people, it's no more than an impractical novelty - something that looks cool but kills performance and battery life. Still, they remain popular on the Market, presumably among more casual owners who don't notice (or care) about the performance hit, or just don't know better... or perhaps even hardcore users don't mind the trade-off.

So, which camp do you fall in?

Update 1/26/12: The MAXX is now live on VZW (thanks, Vinoth):

image

If you were following along with us and the action of CES, then you undoubtedly caught the announcement of the Droid RAZR MAXX, an 8.99 mm thin beast packing a 3,300 mAh battery that will likely outlast you in terms of needing to recharge. While it is nearly 2 mm thicker than the original Droid RAZR, it is still incredibly thin for how long the battery lasts. It can supposedly blast through 21 hours of straight talk time, and considering the fact that any sane person doesn't talk on the phone for 21 hours straight, the battery will definitely keep you up and running during a day of heavy use.

Folks, in less than 24 hours, the busiest, craziest, and most exciting (for gadget geeks anyway) event of the year will begin in Las Vegas and continue non-stop through all of next week. Of course, I'm talking about the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) where almost 130 thousand people are going to be touching, drooling, ogling, and playing with countless products put on display by companies from all over the world, big and small. Hell, half the fun will be catching all the announcements of products we can't even touch yet - ones we may not see for many months. Tablets, phones, phablets, tabphones, 3G, 4G, 5G (OK, maybe not 5G just yet), dual-cores, quad-cores, Android-powered TVs, goggles, and even dongles - we'll see them all!

Galaxy-Nexus

Update x2: Amazon Wireless just dropped the price of the Galaxy Nexus for new subscribers down to $150 (still $250 for upgrades). It's only "for a limited time" so you better hurry!
Update: Wirefly just dropped the price a bit more, down to $190 with a new two-year agreement or $240 for upgrades.

Well, it's finally here – Verizon's variant of the hotly anticipated Galaxy Nexus is available at last, going live with a variety of online retailers just moments ago.

First up is VZW, offering what is perhaps their most hotly anticipated device this year for the hefty price of $299 with a new 2 year agreement.

Seemingly out of nowhere, a new wireless brand Republic Wireless, a division of Bandwidth.com, announced earlier this month that it would revolutionize and shake up the mobile industry by introducing a Hybrid Calling plan that costs only $19 a month. This plan has indeed gone live today over at RepublicWireless.com, together with the first and only mobile device the company is offering (for now) - the LG Optimus.

The low-cost offering is made possible thanks to heavy reliance on Wi-Fi data - Republic Wireless devices are designed to prioritize Wi-Fi networks, and certain measures have been put in place to make sure you don't hog an unfair share of the mobile network (powered by Sprint).
