This is how Google's crazy new home button for Assistant on the 2016 Nexus phones animates

You've all been asking: "how is this crazy weird new home button with the little colored dots going to work?" Today, we finally have an answer for you. In animated GIF form. Because that's the best kind of answer. Before the GIF - a bit of background. At this point, it is our basic assumption that the reasoning behind the home button's rather radically colorful redesign is in order to promote Google Assistant (possibly via Now / On Tap functions), which has been teased by Google in the past using these four little colored dots.

The Nexus Launcher will probably not be an update to Google Now Launcher, but a standalone app

The APK for the new "Nexus Launcher" we detailed yesterday is now floating around the internet, but I've yet to see anyone point out one rather important detail about the whole thing: it doesn't replace Google Now Launcher when installed, but rather is clearly separate in name and branding. Going to the launcher picker with Nexus Launcher and Google Now Launcher installed, you can see both sport different logos and, obviously, names.

Now, this in and of itself is not direct confirmation of the Nexus Launcher being a standalone app, but it seems like a pretty decent bet to make. This leads us to another question: will the Nexus launcher only work on Nexus devices, or does Google plan to make "Nexus" a software branding?

Sony's next flagship phone leaked, shows off new design and USB Type-C

Sony's phones have looked more or less the same from one generation to the next for years, but the company may be looking at a more substantial redesign. A device believed to be the F8331 has been photographed in the wild, and it doesn't look like the Sony phones of the past. It does still have some of the company's hallmark features, though.

Samsung Galaxy J2 leak shows off Smart Glow notification ring

Rumors began percolating a few weeks ago that Samsung would be revamping the notification LED on future phones by making the entire border area around the camera sensor light up. The existence of "Smart Glow" was confirmed by a manual for the Galaxy J2, but the diagram in that left a lot to be desired. Now, SamMobile has a leaked image of the Galaxy J2 itself with Smart Glow. It looks... kind of not great.

Samsung's updated 'Grace' TouchWiz UI for the Note 7 leaks

Samsung has traditionally made some minor UI tweaks to the Note devices every year, which are then adopted on the Galaxy S phones in subsequent updates. The Note 7, however, is expected to see more substantial UI changes. The so-called "Grace" interface for that phone has now leaked on video courtesy of HDblog.it.

Rumored Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Olympic Edition leaks ahead of announcement

Samsung seems to like making special editions of its flagship smartphones. For example, that neat Iron Man S6 Edge from last year or the Batman S7 Edge more recently. Now, there's apparently an Olympic Edition Galaxy S7 Edge in the works. After being rumored several months ago, Evan Blass has posted a render of the phone.

In the meantime, there are two new leaked photos of the OP3, including the one above.

Motorola Probably Still Has A Moto Z Play In the Works, Along With Pro Camera Mod and Waterproof Adventure Mod

Motorola announced the Moto Z yesterday with fewer Moto Mod accessories than were previously rumored. There's even an entire phone from previous leaks that didn't make an appearance. According to HelloMotoHK, those are still happening, and there are new-ish images. The phone is code named Vertex, and the remaining Mods were still called Amps when these images were produced.

Lenovo's PHAB2 Pro Tango Phone And Two More PHAB2 Variants Leak In Full Ahead Of Announcement

Lenovo Tech World is going to kick off shortly, but the details of the company's big Tango phone announcement have apparently leaked. I don't just mean "big" in the abstract; this phone is really physically large with a 6.4-inch QHD display. The new leaked specs include a number of convincing new images that match the rumors that have come before. So, say hello to the PHAB2 Pro. Yeah, I guess that's really the name.

More Motorola Leaks: 'Style Mod' Replaceable Covers For The Moto X/Z And DROID Come In A Variety Of Materials

Like it or not, it's clear that Motorola's often-leaked upcoming batch of phones will be very different from the relatively straightforward designs in its current lineup. Previous leaks indicated that at least some of the models in the refreshed Moto X (or possibly Moto Z) and DROID series will have add-on modules called "MotoMod" that snap onto the back of the phone via a proprietary interface. It's a lot like the direction that LG is taking with its modular G5.
