Here's The OTA Update ZIP For Android 4.4.3 (KTU84L) On The Nexus 7 LTE

Owners of the LTE variant of the Nexus 7 2013 have kind of been left out in the cold when it comes to the latest Android updates. While most of the other current Nexus devices (including the WiFi version of the same tablet) are running Android 4.4.4, a lot of N7 LTE users are still back on 4.4.2. Those who know their way around a bootloader can install the factory image for 4.4.3, but until now there was no standard over-the-air update.

The last time that the Padfone 2 got a major version update was way back in December 2012, for Jelly Bean 4.1. Yeah, you read that right. Today ASUS is updating its second phone-tablet-combo-thingy all the way to KitKat, a move that will surely please at least some of the users who haven't upgraded to one of the newer models. Are you ready for some sketchy ASUS English translations? Of course you are.

US Cellular Updates Its Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini And Galaxy Mega Phones To 4.4.2

All the talk about Android L this week overshadows the unfortunate fact that the previous release is still on less than 15% of Android devices. This weekend US Cellular is helping in a small way, releasing KitKat to two of its Samsung phones. The US Cellular versions of the Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy Mega (6.3) are both being updated to KitKat, so those with the applicable hardware should keep an eye out for the over-the-air alert.

Changelog Posted For Android 4.4.3 (KTU84M) To 4.4.4 (KTU84P), Just Security Fixes

An unexpected treat came zooming out of Google HQ today as Android 4.4.4 OTAs and factory images have started rolling out for Nexus devices. The updates have already been posted to AOSP and Al Sutton quickly followed up with a list of the changes. Since 4.4.3 is only 2 weeks old, and I/O is merely a week away, we had a feeling this was just a security update, and it looks like that's all it is.

Most of the significant changes are centered around fixing a recently discovered vulnerability in OpenSSL.

Updates To AOSP Confirm Dalvik Runtime Will Be Removed From Android, ART Officially Takes Its Place

It looks like Google is putting the last nail in Dalvik's coffin, and the new Android Runtime (ART) is about to take the throne. A pair of commits turned up last night in the master branch of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) repository that spell certain doom for the Android runtime we've known and loved for all these years. The first of the two changes completely wipes the /libdvm (Dalvik Virtual Machine) folder from AOSP, and the second takes care of changing all of the relevant configuration files and startup scripts to call on the ART runtime.

Android 4.4.2 KitKat Is Rolling Out To The AT&T Samsung Galaxy Mega

Samsung Galaxy Mega owners have probably felt a little bit ignored while they've watched one Samsung phone after another getting updates. After all, they only made it to Android 4.2.2 at the end of November, a month after KitKat was announced. They can finally say that they're running the latest version of Android (if we pretend that 4.4.3 didn't just come out). Starting today, an update to Android 4.4.2 will begin rolling out to the Galaxy Mega on AT&T.
