Jelly Bean Updates Roll Out To Unbranded UK, Switzerland, Luxemburg Galaxy S IIIs And Branded Ones In 8 Other Countries

The pace at which Samsung is pushing out Galaxy S III Jelly Bean updates is picking up steam in Europe with the much anticipated arrival of Android 4.1.1 for unbranded UK handsets. The Brits aren't the only ones getting it today - in fact, the list is quite sizeable. Here, check it out:

  • UK unbranded
  • Switzerland unbranded
  • Luxemburg unbranded (update: supposedly, Belgian S IIIs use the same version too)
  • Denmark (Three)
  • Bulgaria (Mobiltel)
  • Romania (Cosmote)
  • Ireland (Meteor, Vodafone)
  • Czech Republic (O2)
  • Sweden (Tre)
  • Croatia (Vipnet)

Not bad at all - looks like the next platform distribution update won't be as depressing.

Samsung Pushes Out Jelly Bean To Unbranded Galaxy S IIIs In Germany And France (As Well As Bouygues)

Samsung continued the European rollout of Android 4.1.1 to Galaxy S IIIs today with updates going live for carrier unbranded handsets in France and Germany. Jelly Bean is also hitting SGS III devices on France's third largest mobile operator called Bouygues.

To recap, here is how the JB update got pushed out all over Europe in recent weeks:

  • October 22: O2 in UK and Ireland; Vodafone in UK, Italy, Czech Republic, and Germany.
  • October 18: Hutchison Whampoa companies (Three, 3, H3G) in Italy, UK, Ireland, and Austria; Swisscom in Switzerland.
  • October 17: SFR in France; Vodafone in Spain and Romania; A1 in Austria; unbranded in Spain
  • October 15: Sweden (unbranded or Telenor, it's not clear - the CSC for the release is VDS)
  • September 24: unbranded in Poland

As always, check your update notifications, pull via Kies, or download from unofficial ROM sites SamMobile or Samsung-Updates.

Jelly Bean Update For The Samsung Galaxy S III Goes Live On Vodafone And O2 After Brief Delays

European O2 and Vodafone Galaxy S III owners, it's finally your turn to check out Jelly Bean first hand. Following last week's updates on Hutchison Whampoa networks (Three/3/H3G), now O2 and Vodafone joined the party and started pushing out Android 4.1.1 to Galaxy S IIIs in at least the following locations:

  • O2: United Kingdom, Ireland
  • Vodafone: United Kingdom, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany

The Vodafone launch started today right on schedule, as per this post from a few days ago.

The O2 rollout was scheduled to begin on the 19th of October, but was delayed until today, the 22nd, as confirmed by several updates to this blog post on O2's forums:

Samsung Continues Pushing Out Jelly Bean To Galaxy S IIIs In Europe - Italy, United Kingdom, Switzerland, And Ireland Join The List

The Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III is steadily spreading to more countries in Europe, in addition to Poland, Sweden, France, Spain, Romania, and Austria. Today, it started rolling out in Italy (H3G), United Kingdom (H3G), Switzerland (Swisscom), and Ireland (Three), as well as on another Austrian carrier called 3 Austria. As far as I can tell, H3G, Three, and 3 are all owned by the same giant company - Hutchison Whampoa (some names are even interchangeable), so four out of five pushes today seem to be a coordinated effort.

Curiously, the majority of the updates (those pushed by Hutchinson-owned carriers) are no longer I9300XXDLIH dated September 28, but rather I9300XXDLJ1 which is a fresher build dated October 8.

Samsung Announces Jelly Bean For The U.S. Galaxy S III, Available 'In The Coming Months'

Since the JB update started rolling out to the GSIII in Europe last night, Samsung decided this would be the perfect time to let U.S. owners know that the update will be available "in the coming months." Can you guess the reason why it's going to take so much longer? Allow me to enlighten you:

The specific timing and update method will be announced by each carrier partner, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular.

Yep, it's the carriers. Still, while the timing may not be ideal, at least the update is guaranteed.

Samsung goes on to brag about the "host of new and enhanced TouchWiz features," including camera enhancements, blocking mode (which can disable calls, notifications, and alarms), easy mode (which simplifies the interface), and of course, overall usability improvements.

Official Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Updates Continue Rolling Out Across Europe - Now In France, Spain, Romania, And Austria

The floodgates seem be open, folks - the Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III are now rolling out all over Europe. Last month, Samsung shared Android 4.1.1 with Polish users, took a break to fix some bugs, and restarted the process two days ago in Sweden. As of today, the list of countries has expanded quite a bit - France, Spain, Romania, and Austria. All signs point to a much wider rollout, and I wouldn't be surprised if even more territories and carriers show up within the next 48 hours.

Official Galaxy S III Jelly Bean Update Reportedly Rolling Out In Europe, Starting With Poland

One of the most anticipated OS upgrades in recent Android history has reportedly begun in Europe (specifically, Poland) where official Samsung Galaxy S III Jelly Bean firmware was discovered via Kies a couple of hours ago. Since no carrier marking was attached to the announcement by SamMobile's tracker, it looks like the update applies to the unlocked, unbranded variant localized to Poland - specifically, GT-I9300MBDXEO. Google Now and the updated Google Search, offline speech recognition, Project Butter, expandable notifications - it's all there.

Earlier this  month, Samsung promised that the international S III units would start seeing Android 4.1 as soon as October, so it appears the company is actually ahead of schedule.

AT&T Is Rolling Out Ice Cream Sandwich For Samsung Captivate Glide Owners Starting September 7th

In all the Jelly Bean excitement, it can be easy to forget that only 20% of Android users are running Ice Cream Sandwich. Today that number gets just ever so slightly larger, though. AT&T has announced that the Samsung Captivate Glide will be upgraded to 4.0 starting today, September 7th. Woo!

The update will only be available via Kies, so head to your favorite desktop computer post haste. It will not be rolling out over the air. It is, however, available immediately, which is nice. Glide owners can head here for instructions and a link to Kies if you don't already have it on your machine.

Galaxy Note In Germany Gets An Update To Make UI Match Galaxy Note II, Adds New Gallery

Today, a software update began rolling out for the Galaxy Note in Germany. The primary changes are cosmetic, it seems, to bring the phone more in line with the look and feel of the Galaxy Note II. The menu interface has been updated to be more consistent, and Samsung has also added a brand new Gallery that looks fantastic.

The gallery has some impressive new UI flair. How practical it is remains to be seen, but it sure looks nice. It's also unclear if the features demoed at Samsung's recent Unpacked event will make an appearance.

Ice Cream Sandwich Now Available Through Kies For The T-Mobile Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Build UVLH6)

All Wi-Fi versions of Samsung's Galaxy Tab series should have ICS by now, but, as always, carrier connected versions of the devices are left out in the cold. T-Mobile is the only carrier thus far to break that mold when it updated the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus earlier this month.

In a move that should make other carriers feel bad about themselves, T-Mobile has now made available ICS for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, as well. Just like the update for the 7.0 Plus, you can only pull it through Samsung's proprietary Kies software.

This brings the Tab 10.1 up to build UVLH6 with Android 4.0.4, as well as a new, more intuitive version of TouchWiz.
