Recon Instruments Looks To 'Jet' Over Google Glass With New Heads-Up Display Running Jelly Bean

Heads up, Google, Glass is about to get some serious competition. Recon Instruments, a Canadian technology company known for athlete-focused heads-up display products, is looking to expand into general-purpose HUD technology. The company's prototype device - dubbed Jet - was officially unveiled today, and Recon Instruments hopes to release a retail product by the end of this year.

At first glance, the Jet looks like little more than a pair of sunglasses with an attached LCD screen; you won't be mistaking Recon Instrument's HUD for Google's anytime soon. On closer inspection, though, the Jet has promise. Boasting a dual-core CPU, HD camera, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, ANT+ and a myriad of sensors, Recon Instrument's glasses look to account for every augmented reality scenario imaginable.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner Jets To Be Outfitted With Android-Powered Entertainment Systems

Though we've seen Android run on a number of devices beyond just phones and tablets, it's always nice to see another company turn to Android for specialized purposes. It seems that Boeing is doing just that, having recently unveiled Android-powered entertainment systems for their 787 Dreamliner jet.

Boeing announced that it will offer two different entertainment systems for the 787, both of them running Android - the Panasonic eX3, and the Thales TopSeries Avant. However, more specific details have only been announced for the Thales model, which was shown off during a demonstration at the Farnborough International Airshow.

The TopSeries Avant was shown in both 10" and 17" sizes, and for such specialized devices they feature fairly modern specs: a dual core ARM processor and 1GB RAM, and a whopping 256GB of storage, due to the fact that they are primarily media devices.

JetAudio Comes To Android, Bringing Sophisticated Audio Enhancement And Playback Control To Your Mobile Device

JetAudio, an audio solution that's achieved the title of CNET's most-downloaded and highest-rated media player, seems to have found its way to Android, recently becoming available in Google's Play Store.

For those not familiar, JetAudio allows users to play just about any type of audio file, from .wav to .mpc, .spx, .wv, .ape, and a ton more. The app also offers BBE, BBE ViVA, Wide, Reverb, and X-Bass audio enhancement options, and a versatile 10-band equalizer (which has 32 handy presets).

If JetAudio doesn't sound versatile enough already, the app also offers various advanced playback options from speed control to crossfading, AGC, and "much more." On top of all that, the app has a slick, easy-to-grasp interface that delivers a ton of functionality while successfully avoiding clutter.
