We've heard mixed reports about international availability of the HTC J Butterfly/Droid DNA beyond Japan and the U.S. (respectively). Today, HTC saw fit to announce some new countries. For starters, the device with the retina-melting display will be coming to China as the HTC Butterfly X920e in mid-December. Additionally, a 3G version of the device simply called the Butterfly will be released in international markets.

The Chinese version of the device will launch on China Unicom for ¥4,799 (roughly USD$770) and will come in three colors: brown, red, and white. It will carry the same specs as the other variants around the world:

  • 1.5GHz Quad-core Snapdragon processor
  • 5" SLCD3 1080p display
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB storage
  • 2020mAh battery

Outside of China, the device will launch internationally simply as the HTC Butterfly.

The DROID DNA (or DLX ... or DIX) is a phone we've seen running around in leaked photos and Verizon MAP spreadsheets for some time now, but the date of an official launch has generally been elusive. Evleaks suggested early December, and given today's announcement of a Verizon/HTC event next week, that seems to be an increasingly likely timeframe.

The DROID DNA is largely believed to be a DROIDified version of HTC's J Butterfly, a 5" 1080p, quad-core Snapdragon-packing beast of a phone. Of course, the "J" in J Butterfly stands for Japan [only], so it looks like for the first time in a while Americans may be getting a top-tier HTC phone before Europe, or even Taiwan.

Ever since the HTC J Butterfly was announced for Japan we've been wondering when that glorious 1080p display would be coming to US soil. We've seen leaks that indicate that the internals would be released here in a much more One X-looking case, and we're sure by this point that it will be called the Droid DNA. Now, everyone's favorite Twitter leakster (tweakster?) evleaks has dropped a press shot on us with the familiar name and promising an "early December" availability.

The name lines up with what we've heard previously, and the device certainly looks an awful lot like the J Butterfly, as well as the previous blurrycam photos.
