Vodafone Drops Play Store Carrier Billing In The UK, Germany, Italy, And Spain, No Explanation Offered

Normally we're pretty pleased when we can report that a new country or carrier has enabled the option for carrier billing in the Google Play Store, allowing customers to charge app and media purchases directly to their phone bill. But for some reason, European carrier Vodafone seems to have dropped the option entirely. Vodafone has disappeared from the list of carrier billing partners on Google's Play Store support page, and we've confirmed the loss of capability from individual users in the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain.

Google Starts Selling Devices On Italian Play Store For The First Time, Starting With All Flavors Of 2013 Nexus 7

Earlier today, Google announced that the new LTE Nexus 7 was now available for purchase from the Play Stores in 9 countries: Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, UK, Japan, Korea and U.S. For some reason, the company has neglected to mention Italy, which just got the Devices (Dispositivi) section added to the Play Store for the first time ever.

The only devices available at the moment are all three flavors of the Nexus 7:

The Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 are nowhere to be found, which isn't too surprising considering they're now almost a year old.

Google Brings Play Music To France, Germany, Italy, Spain And The UK Right On Time

Just as planned, Google just unleashed Play Music upon select European countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.

We've known that Google would bring Music to Europe since last month, when the Mountain View giant also announced a new alliance with Warner Music Group, meaning that Play Music was finally partnered with "all of the major record labels globally."

Jelly Bean Update For The Samsung Galaxy S III Goes Live On Vodafone And O2 After Brief Delays

European O2 and Vodafone Galaxy S III owners, it's finally your turn to check out Jelly Bean first hand. Following last week's updates on Hutchison Whampoa networks (Three/3/H3G), now O2 and Vodafone joined the party and started pushing out Android 4.1.1 to Galaxy S IIIs in at least the following locations:

  • O2: United Kingdom, Ireland
  • Vodafone: United Kingdom, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany

Samsung Continues Pushing Out Jelly Bean To Galaxy S IIIs In Europe - Italy, United Kingdom, Switzerland, And Ireland Join The List

The Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S III is steadily spreading to more countries in Europe, in addition to Poland, Sweden, France, Spain, Romania, and Austria. Today, it started rolling out in Italy (H3G), United Kingdom (H3G), Switzerland (Swisscom), and Ireland (Three), as well as on another Austrian carrier called 3 Austria. As far as I can tell, H3G, Three, and 3 are all owned by the same giant company - Hutchison Whampoa (some names are even interchangeable), so four out of five pushes today seem to be a coordinated effort.

Amazon Appstore Finally Ditches U.S. Exclusivity, Now Available In The UK, Germany, France, Italy, And Spain

Back at the end of June, Amazon officially announced that its Appstore would move past the U.S. borders and make its way into various parts of Europe sometime "this summer." Just in the nick of time, the company has announced that the Appstore is now available in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

Not only does this offer European residents Amazon's [often crappy] free app of the day, but it greatly increases Amazon's presence outside of the US.

Original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Getting ICS Now In The UK And Italy

Slowly but surely, Samsung has been pushing ICS to several devices in the Galaxy Tab series, and it looks like today's the day for the Wi-Fi (GT-P7510) in the UK and the 3G version (GT-P7500) in Italy. The long-awaited update brings not only Android 4.0, but also an updated version of Touchwiz UX that's quite similar to the newest Tab 2 series.

Amazon: Appstore Going Live In UK, France, Germany, Spain And Italy "This Summer"

According to a press release just sent out by Amazon, the company's Appstore will be headed to Europe this summer as rumored, though only to five countries to start. The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy will all be getting access to Amazon's Appstore in the coming months, and developers can head over to the App Distribution Portal to get started on certifying their apps for distribution in those countries right now.
