HTC Files Patent Suit Against Apple – The Circle Of Life Continues

It looks like the patent war between Apple and HTC is beginning to heat up. Apple fired the opening shot two months ago when they filed suit against HTC, claiming they infringed on a number of their patents, and until today, things kept fairly quiet. However, as expected, HTC won’t give up with out a fight, and has retaliated by filing their own patent suit with the ITC asking that all imports and sales of iPhones, iPads and iPods be halted.

The scope of the suit HTC has filed is not as encompassing as Apple’s original filing, covering only 5 patents, where Apple’s suit covered 20.

Google’s Own Android Tablet On The Way - We Rejoice

iPad haters rejoice! According to the New York Times, Google is close to releasing its own tablet, powered by Android, to compete with the iPad and other tablet devices entering the market in the coming months.

Although we still don’t know of all the specifics involved or what company will be responsible for creating the device for Google, the tablet is rumored to offer users “an e-reader that would function like a computer”. According to anonymous sources, Google is already in talks with publishers about putting books and magazines on the tablet when it is eventually released.

To me, using Android on such a device seems puzzling.

Engadget's Vlad Savov just announced a new Android tablet called Gemini by ICD (Innovative Converged Devices), seemingly out of nowhere - Google searches do not bring up anything but Engadget's own post - it looks like they have an exclusive here. I hate using the term "###### killer", so I will not be calling it an iPad killer. However, it is going to give Apple a run for its money.

Gemini has beautiful 11.2" screen, compared to iPad's 9.7" - a whole 1.5" larger diagonally. This gives us 8.38 square inches of extra viewing space to ogle at.

Tablet Sales In 2010 - And The Winner Is… (Here Is A Hint: iPad VS Android)

We have some interesting numbers today regarding tablet sales in 2010, courtesy of IMS Research - a research company specializing in a variety of topics, such as wireless communications, automotive, consumer, power, and security.

The report suggests that 24% of all tablets sold in 2010 will be running the Android OS. Microsoft will be following way behind at only 10% of the market.

The first place will be undoubtedly occupied by Apple's iPad, which was released 2 days ago and sold an estimated 700,000 units just on day one. We don't have the exact number from the report but Apple's share trumps all competition.
