Latest Version Of Swype Breaks Free Of The Nexus S 4G, Now Available For Rooted Android Devices

Update: At the request of Swype, we have removed the links to this ported version of Swype for the Nexus S 4G because of licensing concerns regarding the Sprint branding. Also, because this same update will be rolled out on Swype Beta for all devices this week. Check out the announcement, here.

Just about a week ago, Sprint let Nexus S 4G owners in on a new version of Swype that improved capitalization of proper nouns, spruced up the UI, and introduced shortcut gestures (see the video below). Unfortunately, users of all non-NS4G Android phones were left out of the fun; therefore, we did not consider the update newsworthy.

How-To: Manually Update Your Verizon 3G XOOM To Android 3.2 HTJ85B (Rooted Or Unrooted, With Locked Or Unlocked Bootloaders)

The Android 3.2 update for the Verizon 3G (soon-to-be 4G) XOOM can be flashed right now, before it hits your device over-the-air.

Custom Recovery

If you've flashed a custom recovery (and gave up the warranty), you can find update instructions over at MDW - in this case, you don't need our instructions below. This option is good for those with unlocked bootloaders (though if you're rooted, it seems the only update option right now is to install a pre-rooted update which will wipe your device).

Stock Recovery - Unrooted, Locked Bootloader

However, if you decided that unlocking the bootloader is not worth voiding your warranty or simply don't feel comfortable unlocking, you can still install the update before Verizon decides to push it to you, using the stock recovery.

Autodesk Releases Inventor Publisher Viewer To The Android Market

If you're familiar with Autodesk's Inventor Publisher software, then you know what a Godsend it can be for creating and viewing rich, three-dimensional instructions. Up until now, it has been lacking on thing, though - what if you're not at at PC when you need to view said instructions? Suddenly, the benefits of Inventor Publisher were not as glorious. That has all changed now, though, as Autodesk has released an Inventor Publisher Viewer app into the Android Market.

Like its name suggests, the viewer allows you to use instructions created in Inventor Publisher on your Android phone or tablet. That's right - this app is optimized for phones and tablets alike, adding even more functionality to its already strong skillset.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Already Rooted Using The Easiest Root Instructions Ever

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 hasn't even been in our hands more than 12 hours, but it has already been rooted. Turns out Samsung left absolutely no protection on the device, and rooting it is even easier than rooting a XOOM, and that says a lot (the XOOM was meant to be easily unlocked and rooted).

For comparison, the XOOM root requires fast oem unlock and data wipe, while the Galaxy Tab 10.1 root process is as simple as mounting the file system for writing and copying su and SuperUser.apk to it, all of which is packaged into a nice flashable zip file.

AT&T users, rejoice! Brief Mobile has been informed that user DesignGears, along with Getaphixx, has rooted the Motorola Atrix before its official release.

AT&T is notorious for restricting its users to only Market apps. Through rooting, however, non-Market apps can run via sideloading. These privileges also provide an easy way to free users of the bloated social-networking service MOTOBLUR and disable many other unnecessary applications.

We didn't exactly expect it to take long, but the Nexus S that went on sale today has now been rooted by Koush, the creator of ClockworkMod recovery and ROM Manager. ROM Manager support is coming very soon, but in the meantime, you can get your Nexus S rooted and ClockworkMod installed by following these easy instructions, courtesy of Koush:

[Updated] Froyo For Samsung Epic 4G Now Available To Download [Hands-On] [Instructions]

Update: A Sprint official has just posted on the Samsung Epic forums saying that this is not the final version of Froyo for the Epic. What's more, he gave one commenter an ETA of about three weeks. Ridiculous, isn't it?

Below is a statement from the Epic Product Manager regarding the leaked release (DK28):

Sprint is working on a software package for the Samsung Epic4G that will upgrade it to the Froyo version of Android.  Over the weekend, some users were able to access and download a test build (DK28) for the Samsung Epic from some 3rd party developer sites.  Unfortunately, this is not approved software for Sprint production devices and we strongly recommend that users refrain from loading it.

Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo OTA Is Now Live! Download Yours Now (FRG01B)

What a great day for Motorola Droid owners - your Froyo update that you've been patiently waiting for is finally here. You can upgrade your ESE81 (that's your old Éclair) to what is now called FRG01B (this is your Froyo) using the link below.

It is unclear yet whether the upgrade is showing up when you ask the phone to update in Settings > About > System updates but we have preliminary reports that it is not. However, you can upgrade manually using the procedure below.

This post will be updated throughout the day.
