Instagram is making some changes to improve the user experience on its service. Social media in general can bring about some great conversations, but there are always those who like to ruin good things. So, the Facebook-owned company is adding some new tools and controls to help users feel safer and to keep the platform a place for self-expression. Read More
Instagram, once a social network dedicated purely to posting pictures of food, has become prone to feature creep (not unlike Facebook's other properties). Back in August Instagram added Snapchat-like stories, and earlier this month Boomerang support. Today the company announced two new features for the app - Live video on Instagram stories, and disappearing photos/videos in direct messages. Read More
Instagram has been testing the ability to save posts as drafts since at least the end of July. With today's Instagram 9.4.0 update, the feature appears to have gone live for everyone.
To save a draft, simply tap the Back button while editing a photo to bring up the below message. To access your saved draft, tap the Camera button at the center of Instagram's bottom bar, and it will appear in the Gallery section above your pictures. This works exactly as you would expect post drafts to work.
Instagram has not announced any other features in the 9.4 update, but you can grab the update from the Play Store or the APKMirror link below. Read More
Pinch-to-zoom has existed in photo-centric apps for years. However, not in Instagram. Yes, perhaps the most popular photo sharing community that has ever existed does not have support for zooming in on photos, but that won't be the case for much longer. Pinch-to-zoom is coming to Android soon, and some of you might already have it. Read More
Do you fancy yourself a designer? Well, you might be able to get your art included in an upcoming collection of Android Wear watch faces. Google is working with Paper Magazine to get design ideas from the internet. Interested? You've only got a few weeks to get your submission in. Read More
The latest app to join the rather exclusive 1 billion club on Google Play is... drumroll please... Instagram. This is quite surprising when estimates only put the number of accounts at 500 million, but I guess the downloads counter doesn't differentiate between unique installs or not. Either way, it scares me that Facebook owns the two biggest social networks in the world.
After the Facebook app, then WhatsApp, then Messenger, Instagram is the fourth of Facebook's apps to get 1 billion installs. Again, scary. Getting 1 billion installs is no easy feat - especially since at the last count Android only had 1.4 billion users. Read More
Instagram's Stories is a blatant copy of Snapchat Stories, so it's not really a huge surprise to see another feature carried over. In this update, Instagram is getting one-finger zoom - simply hold the record button and slide your finger up or down to zoom. Wonder where they got that idea from?
- We have a few improvements to Instagram Stories!
- Zoom with one hand as you're recording a video. Slide your finger up while holding the video record button.
- Lots of bug fixes and improvements to make stories even better (and faster).
There's not really much more to say on this, other than in practice it works well. Read More
Kids these days love Snapchat. That's my understanding, anyway. And news like this only feeds into that impression. Instagram is now introducing Stories, a feature similar to one Snapchat launched three years ago. Read More
