The end of the year seems to be the best time for companies to reflect on their performances and pat themselves on the back for a job well done. Last year for example, LG was happy to have sold 450,000 LG V10 units in 45 days despite a release in a few limited markets. This year, it's Huawei's turn to puff its feathers and flaunt its numbers in front of everyone: the P9 and P9 Plus have shipped over 10M units worldwide. Hooray!

Who says that Nexus owners get to have all the fun? Yesterday an innocuous XDA thread claimed to have a beta version of an Android 7.0 build, ready and waiting for Huawei's dual-camera phone, the P9. Usually that sort of post when we're still weeks or months away from a full AOSP release of a new Android version is, to put it bluntly, bunk. But in this case, users who have flashed the ROM say that it's functional and apparently legitimate - Huawei's proprietary EMUI skin, marked as version 5, is running on top of Nougat. It's working on the EVA-L09 model; others may not be compatible.

Adverts for tech products tend to range wildly from being excellent to being excruciatingly terrible. When executed properly, they have the potential to be charming, funny, and effusive, and demonstrate the features of the product well. The latest marketing campaign for the Samsung Galaxy S7, starring rapper Lil’ Wayne, is a great example of that. But when they go wrong, they go really wrong, as seen by the TV spot for the new Huawei P9.

The first thing to note about the Huawei P9 is how thin it is. At only 6.95mm, the phone feels very narrow in your palm, negating that 5.2-inch 1080p display. While I have big hands (my normal phone is a Nexus 6P, and I could go bigger), the P9 fits in my hand very well, not feeling too big or too small. Another thing you notice is its weight: it weighs only 144g, which for a phone of this size is crazy. It doesn't feel like it weighs this, though; maybe it's the thinness, or the compact body, but it feels like it weighs much less.

The Huawei P9 has leaked quite a bit over the past few weeks, but now it's finally official, with Huawei announcing the device at an event in London. The standard P9 has the same screen size as its predecessor, a 5.2-inch 1080p display, while the P9 Plus has a 5.5-inch display, but still at a 1080p resolution.

We already know that Huawei is announcing the much-anticipated P9 in London tomorrow, but what about the US? The P9 is likely not destined for North America yet again, but the Wall Street Journal says Huawei is going to get serious about the American market soon.

At this point, it feels like we know quite a lot about the Huawei P9, the Chinese manufacturer's new flagship. Thanks to the earlier VentureBeat leak, we know there'll likely be a version packing 4GB RAM and a high-end Kirin 955 SoC, and possibly a cheaper, lower-end version with a Kirin 950 and 3GB RAM, both with a 5.2-inch 1080p display.

Huawei didn't announce the upcoming P9 flagship smartphone at Mobile World Congress last week, but VentureBeat has some new images and information on the device. The phone has a distinctly Huawei vibe, but around back is something we're seeing more lately—dual cameras. You may also notice a bit of a Nexus 6P vibe.
