HTC Drops Kernel Source Code For One S - Once Again Neglects The US Version On T-Mobile

HTC has given developers another treat today, in the form of kernel source code for the HTC One S. HTC's Dev Center has the downloads available, categorized by carrier and region. Unfortunately, the US variant on T-Mobile is conspicuously absent from the list. Previously, when HTC released the kernel source for the One X, the AT&T version was similarly missing and remains so to this day.

HTC hasn't explained why the US models are being left off the list, though it isn't difficult to imagine that the US carriers are simply more fussy than operators elsewhere in the world.

HTC: Customs Review Complete, AT&T One X And Sprint EVO 4G LTE Released, Future Shipments Should Be Free To Enter US

Official word from HTC on the customs review of its smartphones is that the process has been completed (confirmed for the EVO 4G LTE, AT&T One X). The review was the result of an Apple lawsuit at the ITC for patenting infringement, which culminated in the issuance of an exclusion order for all HTC smartphones entering the US. The statement, below:

“HTC has completed the review process with US Customs and HTC devices have been released, as they are in compliance with the ITC’s ruling.

[Editorial] It's Time To Stop Complaining That Your Smartphone Isn't "Revolutionary"

The last few years have been really exciting. Heck, the whole last decade. The explosive proliferation of broadband brought about a whole new world of possibilities for mankind, and the mobile revolution, even moreso. From about 2007 to the present, we watched as Apple and Google, as well as a host of phone manufacturers, turned the world upside down by putting powerful, location-aware, internet-connected, touchscreen mini-computers in the hands of everyday consumers for a price that is relatively affordable.

[Exclusive] How To Root The AT&T HTC One X On Version 1.85 (Or Earlier)

While giving the AT&T HTC One X's firmware a look over, I ran across a a vulnerability that would allow us to gain root access. It turned out not to be all that useful at the time, as another root was released the same day. With the latest 1.85 firmware leak, the previously published root has been fixed, making the one I found earlier useful once again.

Update: AT&T disabled the app installation features of Ready2Go thereby breaking this root process.

HTC Publishes Official, Detailed List Of Phones To Get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Updates

The title should make this one obvious. HTC has published a brand-new list of its devices to get Android 4.0, but the difference between this one and previous lists is the level of detail. Most phones have a target OTA deployment range of 2 months, significantly more precise than the typical "quarterly" guestimates we see manufacturers publish generally. Here's the list:

DROID Incredible 2 by HTC: To be determined (by the end of August)

HTC Amaze 4G: May-June

HTC Desire S: June-July

HTC Desire HD: July-August

HTC EVO 3D: June-July

HTC EVO 4G+: May-June

HTC EVO Design 4G: June-July

HTC Incredible S: June-July

HTC Sensation: March-June

HTC Sensation 4G: March-June

HTC Sensation XE: March-June

HTC Sensation XL: April-Jun

HTC Rezound: June-July

HTC Rhyme: June-July

HTC Thunderbolt: July-August

HTC Velocity 4G: March-June

HTC Vivid: March-June

A few notable absentees include the Inspire 4G (which is a Desire HD variant), EVO 4G, EVO Shift 4G, myTouch 4G, Status, and Wildfire S - though most of those weren't expected to get the update in the first place.

[Update: HTC Responds] HTC: "Some" Smartphones Have Cleared US Customs Review And Are On Their Way To Carriers

Update: We've received an official statement from an HTC spokesperson on the situation with US Customs, and it basically confirms what was said to the Taiwanese stock exchange. Here it is:

“Each imported HTC model must be reviewed by Customs and will be released once Customs officials have completed the inspection.  Some models have gone through inspection and been released to our carrier customers.  We don't have the status of each specific device model at this time, but we are working closely with Customs.

Orders For T-Mobile's HTC Amaze 4G Delayed, Possibly Due to Apple Patent Dispute

In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, it seems that at least one customer ordering an HTC Amaze 4G from T-Mobile.com has been alerted that shipments of the device have been delayed "due to an unforeseen issue with receiving the product from the manufacturer." It looks like T-Mobile is sending out emails to customers informing them that  they have no "estimate as to when the product will be available," and suggesting that customers explore other options in the meantime.

[Deal Alert] Unlocked Black GSM HTC One X Available On eBay Daily Deals For $557

Until the Galaxy S III comes out, the One X is the phone that's stealing all the spotlights. eBay Daily Deals is offering an unlocked One X for $557, the lowest price we've seen yet. This device is a GSM quadband model that supports AT&T 3G stateside (no LTE, though). Once again, no T-Mobile 3G.

2012-05-19_13h52_11

The device is available just for today and is only available in black. Keep in mind, since this is the international version, the device is packing the quad-core Tegra 3 that overseas readers are accustomed to, not the dual-core, but still impressive S4 Krait processor AT&T's One X (known as the One XL overseas) is carrying.
