HTC is continuing to release devices with signed locked bootloaders, as we found out today after taking a look at the latest HTC Sensation system dump. The upcoming HTC Sensation is one of the most powerful and desirable devices coming up, alongside the Galaxy S2, but while the latter's bootloader is unlocked, the one in the Sensation is protected via HTC's private key.

Unless we get really lucky, this means no custom kernels on the device (i.e. no custom ROMs) or recovery (i.e. no Clockwork, RA, or nandroid). Lady Luck was hovering around when we got our hands on the Thunderbolt - Justin Case and Team AndIRC who fully unlocked it can tell you just how lucky they got, but we may not get so lucky with the Sensation.

It looks like June 8th is going to be quite a day around T-Mobile, because three new Android devices should be hitting the shelves. Among the three devices is the HTC Sensation - the highly anticipated 4.3 inch beast that rocks Sense 3.0. Not to distract from the others that are dropping at the same time, though, here is a spec-sheet rundown of each.

Samsung GT2

As the lowest-end of the three devices, the GT2 is a sequel to the Samsung Gravity T, but this time it's packing Android under the hood.

  • 3.2 Inch display
  • Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
  • 800MHz processor (they call it "impressive" - ha!)
  • 3MP rear camera
  • Android 2.2

While this phone clearly isn't breaking any records, it appears that the younger generation may be the target audience for this text-centric device.

HTC Sensation, the latest of HTC's European Android handsets, featuring a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 4.3" qHD display, 768MB of RAM, dual cameras (1080P HD 8MP on the back and 2MP on the front), and 1GB of internal storage, is now available for pre-order on Vodafone UK.

You can expect to get EVO 3D's younger brother for free on plans starting at £35 a month, for £99 on the £30 plan, and for £199 on the £25 plan. If all goes well, you'll have the shiny speed demon in your hands by May 19th. Not a bad deal, not a bad one at all.

We Android fans love our input methods. Luckily there is no shortage of options, with keyboards ranging from the standard Gingerbread keyboard all the way to wacky ones such as 8Pen. Despite all the competition, and the fact that it isn't even available on the Android Market, Swype is one of the most popular custom keyboards around. It makes the tedious act of touchscreen typing that much smoother by letting users glide their thumb from letter to letter rather than tapping.

There are a number of imitators on the market today that try to implement this swiping method of text input, and HTC Sense 3.0 is said to be bringing another into the mix.

This morning, an HTC Sensation ROM featuring Sense 3.0 got leaked online, and while we're waiting for it to be ported to various devices, I thought it'd be a good idea to download it and see if it has any new wallpapers, ringtones, or notification sounds. While I was a bit disappointed on the audio front (both notifications and ringtones don't contain anything new), most of the wallpapers were indeed brand new, except maybe bokeh (I ran them through TinEye's reverse image search).

Have a look at the wallpapers below and download them from our mirror if you like what you see.

I know that everyone loves leaks, so here is a good one for all of the devs out there, especially ones that are looking to port Sense 3.0 to devices that HTC says won't get it (at least not all of it anyway). A test ROM for the HTC Sensation (yes, the one we just told you about on earlier this week, also known as the Pyramid) has publically leaked with all goodies, including Sense 3.0, intact.

So there you go Thunderbolt, Inspire, Desire, and all other HTC handset owners - hopefully the full blown Sense 3.0 interface will end up coming your way shortly.
