Do you hear that? It's the sound of a thousand HTC fans modding the crap out of their shiny new HTC One Developer Edition smartphones. The Taiwanese company just posted the RUU (ROM Update Utility) for the American version of the One DE, giving would-be tinkerers a safe way to restore their devices if something goes boom. You can download the RUU at HTC's Developer Center. We'd post some direct links for you, but HTC is insisting you go through the Downloads page. Click the RUU for a Windows EXE file, or zip for a ZIP file of the ROM.

HTC Releases Kernel Source Code For The One Developer Edition, Canadian-Branded Variants

It's One launch day! You can get HTC's newest flagship on Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile here in the US, as well as Telus, Bell, Brightpoint, and Rogers in Canada. To go along with the official launch of the device, HTC has also decided to throw the development community a bone by releasing the kernel source code for five variants of the device: Developer Edition, Brightpoint, TELUS, Bell, and Rogers.

Notice anything particular about that list? Yeah... no US variants anywhere to be found. No word when we may see the source hit for those variants (don't hold your breath) – but if you're looking to tinker with a Canadian version of the phone, hit the link below and go nuts.

PSA: HTC One Available Today On AT&T And Sprint [Update: T-Mobile, Too]

I've noticed something different with the HTC One: people are actually excited about it. I can't say that I've ever seen such a response to an HTC phone in recent years, so that's a good thing. This phone is hitting the scene at a crucial time for HTC, and with people calling it "the best Android phone" in existence right now (or even this year), it could be the saving grace needed to pull the company from its recent slump. It's going to have some stiff competition from Samsung's Galaxy S 4, but considering 61 percent of our readers said they'd take the One over the S4, things are definitely looking up for HTC.

HTC's Bachelorette Spoof, Featuring The One And James Van Der Beek, May Be The Best Worst Phone Commercial Ever

HTC needs to get the message out about the One. This probably isn't the best way to go about it.

The 3.5-minute ad on Funny Or Die has some genuine guffaws, but they're buried in awkward pauses, cringe-inducing costumes, and James Van Der Beek's grizzled chin. The Beek has been making a quiet, enjoyable comeback lately (see his meta self-performance on Apartment 23), but this baffling display of wannabe viral marketing can only hurt both his and HTC's image.

It starts off as a fairly standard Bachelorette riff, "The One With James van Der Beek," featuring the requisite cheesy backdrops, improbably hot young lady, and smarmy, charming host.

HTC Profits Take A Dive: Q1 Is The Lowest-Profit Quarter On Record Following One Delay

There is no joy in Taoyuan this morning, as HTC's first quarter financial results have become public. The Taiwanese company has reported the lowest profit in its 16-year history, with just $2.8 million USD ($85 million Taiwanese dollars) in net income for Q1 2013. It's the sixth quarter in a row that HTC has posted declining profits, and a staggering year-over-year drop of 98%.

The news came from a somber release on HTC's website, without any of the usual fanfare. Analysts reaction compiled by Bloomberg blame the drop on delays for the flagship One phone, which has now been pushed into an April launch in the US and other markets.

[Deal Alert] Pre-Order Sprint's HTC One For $150 From Wirefly

HTC's newest flagship is doing its best to turn heads with innovative features and funky buzzword-branding. If you've been sipping the Kool-Aid and simply must have this up-and-coming powerhouse, Wirefly's got a pretty solid deal if you are (or plan on being) a Sprint customer: you can pre-order either the silver or black variants for $150.

With that said, if you're switching carriers and plan on porting your number, then Sprint's pre-order offering is still a better deal at only $99. If you're already a customer of The Now Network, however, Wirefly's deal has Sprint's $200 upgrade price beat by a fifty spot.

HTC One Developer Edition Pre-Orders Open Up To U.S. Customers For $649

Do you have an extra $649 burning a hole in your pocket? Do you have a hankering for a carrier and bootloader-unlocked HTC One? If so, we've got some news for you. HTC just opened up pre-sales for the HTC One Developer Edition to US customers.

[Update: Pre-Orders Live] AT&T Announces Official Availability Of HTC One: $199 For 32GB, Confirms 64GB Exclusive For $299, Launches April 19th

Update: Pre-orders for the One have gone live on the AT&T website - you can get either the 32 or 64GB version, as long as you want Glacial Silver.

After some misinformation was spread yesterday (and not just the April Fools' kind) about the price of the HTC One, AT&T has stepped forward to clarify some things. The 32GB model will sell for $199 with a two year contract. Additionally, for the storage hungry, the carrier will have the exclusive on the 64GB model at launch, which will cost $299. There is no word on when other carriers might get a 64GB variant as well, but we imagine it will at least be a few months.
