The HTC One M8 Eye Is Now Ready For Purchase, As Long As You Live In China

A couple of weeks ago, a good number of us were turned on by the idea of an updated HTC One M8 that shipped with a camera packing not 4, but 13 megapixels. Then we had our hopes and dreams shattered with news that the device was expected to be a China and India exclusive.

The phone has now gone on sale in China. It will probably get imported into India, but there's nothing new to share concerning the other side of the globe.

Several Leaks Of The 'HTC Desire Eye' Show A Big 13MP Front-Facing Camera Complete With LED Flash

HTC is set to unveil some new hardware at a New York City event on Wednesday. The company itself has already given us some clues to a GoPro-style sports camera (including a couple of unintended product images), and a few less reliable sources claim there will be a phone with a 13-megapixel Duo camera. This weekend the Twitter leak account @Upleaks showed some images of an alleged "HTC Desire Eye," a phone that embraces the selfie craze (ugh) in a big way.

If you need a great phone and aren't interested in a contract, but you're willing to compromise on what's technically the cutting edge, you're in a good position to save a bit of money. For example, take this perfectly good 32GB HTC One M7 (that's the one before the one they're selling now).

Official Team Win Recovery Project Build Now Available For The Verizon HTC One M7

Verizon tends to actively discourage users from rooting and otherwise modifying their phones - that is to say, the users' phones, not Verizon's. Despite a draconian bootloader policy, the HTC One M7 (2013) has had at least some form of S-Off available since October of last year, and Justin Case's Sunshine tool has taken care of the more recent software builds. It's a little late to the party, but the official build of the Team Win Recovery Project is now available for the HTC One on Big Red.

T-Mobile's HTC One M7 is set to receive an over-the-air update tomorrow, September 10th, that will deliver Android 4.4.3 along with Wi-Fi calling enhancements. HTC's Mo Versi, the company's Vice President of Product Management, took to Twitter this weekend to deliver the news in his usual fashion.

T-Mobile has long supported Wi-Fi calling, a feature that lets users circumvent a poor mobile connection by tapping into their home network instead.

Looks Like The HTC One E8 – The M8's Plastic Cousin – Is Heading To Sprint

HTC's One M8 is a solid phone. It's packed with high-end specs, and has a high-end build to match. Of course, all that also equates to a high-end price tag. In an effort to build an equally powerful phone with a much smaller price, HTC swapped out the M8's aluminum body for a much subtler plastic frame. The result is the One E8, a much more affordable M8 trapped in plastic shell.

Google officially pulled the HTC One M7, Galaxy S4, Xperia Z Ultra, and LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition devices from the Play Store not too long ago. Since then we've seen a couple of them pop up on sale across various distributors. When an eBay seller offered the Galaxy S4 for $499 ($150 off) last month, we considered that a deal. Before that, Expansys USA offered the Z Ultra for the low price of $349, $100 less than what Google last asked for it.
