Galaxy S6 Achieves Monstrously High Benchmark Scores, Leaves HTC One M9 In The Dust

It almost goes without saying, but benchmarks are not everything. These numbers don't always tell you how a device will perform, but they do tell you something. Right now the Galaxy S6 is telling us that Samsung's new Exynos chip is very, very fast. It's putting up AnTuTu scores of nearly 70,000, well above the values produced by devices like the LG G3, Nexus 6, LG G Flex 2, and even the new HTC One M9.

HTC One M9 Coming To AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, And Sprint, US Cellular Passes For Now

Samsung, LG, and HTC are the heavy-hitters in the Android world - you can generally expect their flagship devices to be on almost every American carrier. So it is with HTC's new One M9, which has been confirmed for four out of the five major US carriers right out of the gate. We asked a US Cellular representative if the company planned to offer the One M9 after they confirmed that they'd be carrying Samsung's new S6 and S6 Edge, and were told that it wasn't on the release schedule at the moment.

HTC Announces The One M9: 5-Inch 1080p Screen, Snapdragon 810, 3GB of RAM, Sense 7, And A Single 20MP Rear Camera

HTC's One series has kept a consistent design language since its minor re-launch in 2013, and it looks like the Taiwanese manufacturer doesn't intend to mess with a good thing. After several leaks, the One M9 (following the M8 and M7) was announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this afternoon (or morning, depending on where you're reading this).

HTC One M9 Shows Up On BestBuy.Com With Specs, Image, And A $649.99 Price Tag

Is there anything left to know about the upcoming HTC One (M9)? Not really. We've already seen the device in a video comparison against its older siblings, the M7 and M8, and in some leaked images and videos from @Upleaks. We know it's going to look almost exactly like its predecessors and that it will ditch the Duo Camera on the back in favor of a single large sensor.

But, in case you want further confirmation that this is what HTC will indeed unwrap later today at its MWC conference, Best Buy has let its own M9 product page go live. It's a listing for the AT&T-compatible grey variant of the phone, with 32GB of storage and priced at $649.99.

Hands-On Video Compares The Unreleased HTC One M9 To The Older M8 And M7

Ah, the leadup to Mobile World Congress, where high-end device leaks flow like milk and honey. After Samsung's Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have been almost entirely revealed, we've now got a video demo'ing HTC's next One flagship, the M9. The video below from YouTube user Samia Lou shows off the unreleased M9 next to its One series predecessors, the One M8 and M7 from 2014 and 2013, respectively. Nothing's official until it's official, but this removes pretty much all doubt about the M9's physical design.

The M9 keeps the same basic One family traits including the metal unibody and dual front-facing speakers, with an added piece of gold-colored metal trim around the bezel, iPhone 4-style.

Don't Trust Case Manufacturers For Device Leaks: HTC One M9 Edition

We are rapidly approaching that fun time of year when the largest Android smartphone manufacturers unveil their newest flagships. That means we're already in the silly season of rumors and leaks. Isn't it interesting to follow all the developments on, say, the HTC One M9? The M7 was great, the M8 was better...it's understandably hard to wait for official information about the 2015 iteration. However, whatever you do, do not look at product images from case manufacturers like Spigen to learn what the next phone will look like.

Remember when famous tipster @evleaks posted these supposed renders of the M9?

Leaked HTC One M9 Renders Surface, This Time Courtesy Of @evleaks

Evan Blass, better known around these parts as the well-regarded leaker @evleaks, has taken to Twitter (despite being retired) with a leaked thumbnail of what may be renders of the upcoming HTC One M9. We've seen purported images of HTC's next flagship surface already, but word on the street says these were dummy shells the manufacturer produced while developing the device (here's what Blass himself has to say on the matter). This leaves room for these latest leaks to still be the real deal.

Let's address the obvious here first. There are two devices here.

New Leaked Images Purport To Show A Much Less Blurry HTC One M9 [Update: Back Image]

A few new images of what very well could be the HTC One M9 have surfaced, and they're a good match for the first shots that showed up a few days ago. This time they're a lot less blurry, though. Take a look.

Possible HTC One M9 Leak Shows A Familiar Flagship Design With A Single Rear Camera

A new HTC flagship phone is coming. You probably already knew that. But the first possible (and frankly, quite probable) look at the device came today from the folks at NowhereElse.fr, a French leak site. Two photos show the front and back of the device, which follows the general design of the One family with a couple of important differences. The photos at the original website were taken down at the request of the anonymous source... which is usually a pretty good indication that they're on to something.

The source refers to the phone as the "HTC One M9," and though we obviously can't confirm it ourselves, it seems like a pretty reasonable jump for the Taiwanese manufacturer.

Bloomberg: HTC One M9 And Smartwatch Coming In March

It's almost a foregone conclusion at this point, but Bloomberg is adding its voice to the chorus predicting a new HTC flagship phone this March. Going a step further, Bloomberg also says a smartwatch is coming at the same time. HTC hopes these releases will help it finally dig out of the profit slump of the last few years.
