WeakSauce 2: 'The Habanero's Revenge' Released With Support For Android 4.4.4, Roots Verizon HTC One m7, One m8, DNA, And More

Back in March, Justin Case released a root tool called WeakSauce for HTC's flagship lineup on Verizon. Unfortunately, a steady procession of updates to each handset has patched the original exploit, leaving many without root. Now there's a new version of WeakSauce, and it can root just about every HTC phone on Verizon running Android 4.4.4 and below.

Named WeakSauce 2: The Habanero's Revenge, this tool works just like its predecessor, and it's completely free.

You've taken the plunge and thrown down some cold hard cash on a brand new HTC One M8, but you're feeling stifled because Verizon doesn't want to allow the bootloader to be unlocked? You might want to check out WeakSauce, a handy new root exploit by XDA recognized developers Justin Case (jcase) and beaups. It's a simple tool that can set up root on both the HTC One M8 and last year's model, the HTC One (codenamed M7).

HTC Unveils The New HTC One (M8) - Snapdragon 801, 5-inch Display, Dual 4 'UltraPixel' Cameras, MicroSD Slot, And That Metal Unibody Design

After months of leaks, with early looks coming in forms ranging from a single Sense 6 screenshot to a fourteen-minute hands-on video in German, we've feared that HTC would have little new left to unveil on the Big Day. That remains to be seen. Now at a simultaneous launch event held in London and New York City this morning, the company has finally formally introduced its new 2014 flagship.

The HTC One M8's screen has jumped to 5-inches (up from 4.7-inches), but it retains its 1920 x 1080 resolution, dropping the PPI down to 440 (down from 469).

HTC Releases BlinkFeed Launcher And Service Pack Apps Into The Play Store

Come on HTC, save some surprises for the event! We're mere hours away from the announcement for the new HTC One and the nuggets keep rolling in. This time it's a pair of fresh-faced apps on the Play Store: BlinkFeed Launcher and the HTC Service Pack. At present, both apps are incompatible with the HTC One released in 2013, suggesting they may either be intended exclusively for the m8 or Sense 6, or HTC is restricting downloads until after the event.

Yet Another Video Of The New HTC One (M8) Appears, This Time Comparing It To The M7

In case you need more proof that the new HTC One is the worst kept secret in mobile tech since the Nexus 5, we offer People's Exhibit A W. This video gives the Verizon-branded M8 almost 10 minutes of time in the spotlight and provides a really good comparison to the first-generation HTC One.

At this stage, there's very little we don't know about HTC's new flagship. Nevertheless, the company is set to debut the M8 to the world tomorrow, and the device should be on sale soon after the press conferences.

Leaked Ad Says The Secondary Camera On The New HTC One (M8) Is For Low-Light Shooting

We've been wondering what that second camera on the back of the HTC M8 (a.k.a. "The All New HTC One") was all about since the first leaks arrived. If an Australian Telstra ad for the new device is to be believed, it is indeed intended to bolster the phone's low-light shooting performance. The advertisement spotted by GSMArena reveals a few things that we didn't already know, and it does indicate that the "Duo Camera" can "create vivid images even in low light."

Low light photography is always tricky, and it's particularly difficult on mobile cameras thanks to their generally small sensors and lenses.

Evleaks Shows Off HTC One 2014 (M8) Case With Integrated See-Through Display, Also Says A Google Play Edition Is Coming [Updated]

Another week closer to HTC's big New York event, another huge leak from the indefatigable Evleaks. This time he's taken to Google+ to show off what looks like a first-party case for the HTC M8 (a.k.a. "The New HTC One"). This case it unlike any we've seen thus far: instead of a transparent "window" like the ones that Samsung and LG have been using for their flagships, this one appears to be covered in tiny holes, allowing the screen below to flash simple messages.

HTC's M8 ('The All New HTC One') Leaked Again, This Time In A More Sober Dark Gray [Update: Silver Too]

Update: It never rains, but it pours. Evleaks has posted a silver render as well. Thanks to the Daniel Juranec who pointed this out.

If you thought that the golden HTC M8 seen yesterday was a bit ostentatious, then you'll be glad to hear that it probably isn't the only color option for "The New One." Evleaks (who posted the original gold press render) posted a second shot this morning, showing the new flagship phone in a much more typical dark gray color.

Full Press Photo Shows The Upcoming HTC M8 ('The New One') In All Its Golden Glory

While photos of upcoming flagships from Samsung and other major manufacturers remain elusive, hardware leaks from HTC have been coming in steadily for the last few weeks. The latest and certainly greatest comes from the indefatigable Evleaks, who posted a full press photo/render of the HTC M8 earlier this morning. Evleaks says it will be called "The All New HTC One," foregoing any kind of sequel moniker.
