It looks like the ATRIX Gingerbread update that started over the weekend is just the start of a line of updates set to hit all AT&T 2011 model post-paid smartphones by the end of this year. Ma Bell is standing on the rooftop shouting out this glorious news for all to hear, along with a list of the phones that will see Android 2.3 sometime this year:
- HTC Inspire 4G
- LG Phoenix
- Motorola ATRIX 4G
- Pantech Crossover
- Samsung Captivate
- Samsung Infuse 4G
Once the ATRIX update is complete, the next device to get some Gingerbread lovin' will be the HTC Inspire 4G, with the update rolling out "in the coming weeks."
Where applicable, the updates will be in delivered OTA (over-the-air) fashion, but in some cases may require PC intervention (because we all know how much manufacturers love their proprietary software). Read More
This is an excellent deal for anyone looking to pick up a new handset without having to sign up for a two-year commitment with a wireless carrier. If you happen to own a Samsung Captivate, HTC Aria, or HTC Inspire 4G, then the dream of many, many Android owners on AT&T is about to be yours - the ability to legitimately sideload apps. AT&T lifted its sideloading-barrier on the newly released Samsung Infuse 4G, and naturally, the question arose: What about older Android devices? Now we have our answer.
This means that you will be able to enjoy the little pleasures that other Android users currently have - like the Amazon Appstore and non-market apps like wireless tether. Read More
We've been talking an awful lot about the Motorola Atrix 4G's HSUPA update lately, but don't think that we've forgotten that the HTC Inspire 4G suffers from the same problem. I guess HTC hasn't forgotten either, because the OTA update that fixes this very issue is now live.
The update includes a couple of other fixes as well, mainly where email is concerned. After the update, email setup should be much easier, and Hotmail, Live, and MSN email should auto-configure. Read More
Update: It looks like we jumped the gun on this one. The Inspire 4G will not be offered for free, it will be the Samsung Captivate.
It's no secret that we all love Android. But what do we love more than Android? Free Android phones, of course! Best Buy Mobile wants to feed our addiction with the newest episode of Free Phone Fridays (and in this case, Saturday, too). If you mosey on into BBM this weekend you can pick up the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon or the Read More
