Android 3.2.1 Honeycomb Update Now Rolling Out To HTC's EVO View 4G

Sprint's variant of the HTC Flyer - the HTC EVO View 4G - is finally getting a taste of Honeycomb, bringing it up to par with competing Android tablets.

Originally launched with a heavily customized version of Android 2.3, the View 4G is now receiving an over-the-air update to Android 3.2.1. As you'd expect, the update brings Honeycomb to Sprint's version of the Flyer, featuring HTC's Sense overlay, and on-screen buttons which replace the View 4G's capacitive keys – here's the full changelog for this 217MB update:

This update adds Android 3.2.1 (Honeycomb) and a new virtual and holographic user interface.

Apparently the demand for a hardware buttoned, Gingerbread packing, 7 inch tablet (with optional pen input!) at full price isn't very high, because the HTC Evo View 4G is hitting the bargain bin yet again.

This time it's over at 1saleaday.com, where you can get an Evo View 4G for $234.98 (after shipping), that's a full $4.97 less than it was 3 days ago (which sold out in minutes), and $165 less than Sprint's theoretical $400 off-contract price.

Their title is wrong. It says dual core, but trust us, unless they have some super secret prototype we've never heard of, the tablet you receive will be strictly mono-core.

Exclusive: New Sprint Plans For The HTC EVO View 4G

Since the upcoming HTC EVO View 4G will be Sprint's first WiMAX-capable tablet, the Now Network decided to tweak its tablet plans a bit. The baseline price is quite similar to the current tablet plan pricing: 1GB for $20, 3GB for $45, and 5GB for $60. It does, however, include a few new options, namely a new 10GB plan for $90 a month and the addition of unlimited 4G data for a 3GB plan or higher.

If you notice, there are two sets of prices there - MRC and Bundled MRC. The latter is a special price point for existing Sprint customers with qualifying unlimited smartphone plans.

[Unconfirmed] HTC EVO View 4G To Hit Sprint Stores On June 24th?

Well, looky at what Engadget got a hold of - a leaked internal document from Sprint's Reward Me site that just so happens to show a possible release date for the HTC EVO View 4G (the WiMax version of the HTC Flyer). Have a look:

As you can see, the View 4G should hit shelves in on June 24th (and no, that's not the price listed beside it Winking smile ), which happens to be same date that the EVO 3D is rumored to be landing on the Now Network as well. There is no word as of yet about pricing or whether or not the digital pen will be included.

HTC EVO 3D And View 4G Use A Single MHL Port That Allows For Both MicroUSB And HDMI Charging - Yes, Your TV Will Charge Your Devices

Something that surprised me at the CTIA conference yesterday was the connector port used in both the HTC EVO 3D and View 4G. Instead of 2 distinct standards, like on the EVO 4G - MicroUSB and MicroHDMI - the new EVO devices have only 1 port that uses the brand new MHL technology (Mobile High-Definition Link). And it is brilliant.

The MHL 1.0 standard, finalized a few months ago, uses a single port to connect both HDMI and MicroUSB, and get this - it is able to charge via HDMI as well. Your MHL-enabled TV, connected to your mobile device via an MHL-HDMI cable, will be able to charge it much faster than MicroUSB.

HTC EVO 3D and EVO View 4G Tablet Pages Appear On Sprint

Sprint is leaking like a sieve this week. Just yesterday a search result revealed the Nexus S 4G shortly before its release and today two registration pages popped up on the Sprint website with images of the yet to be announced HTC EVO 3D and the HTC EVO View 4G Tablet.

These pages don't reveal many details about devices themselves, simply allowing you to register your interest for future notifications. Rumours about the 1.2GHz dual-core EVO 3D and the 1.5GHz single-core EVO View 4G tablet sprang up earlier this month and with the Nexus S 4G confirmed it is likely only a matter of time before the smartphone and tablet, pictured above, are formally launched.
