Google Shows Us 'The Basics' Of Using Glass In New Video

Google's official Glass YouTube channel released its first video today – a minute long introduction to Glass' most basic controls. The video is titled Glass How-to: Getting Started, which leads this writer to believe there may be more How-to's in the works.

Impressively well-produced and perfectly simple, the video discusses Glass' gestures – tapping, swiping forward, backward, and down, and gives a very digestible explanation of the device's time-based card interface.

How To: Install Sony's New PlayStation Mobile For Android On Any Rooted Device

Sony's PlayStation Mobile for Android just went live for certified devices last night. But what if you don't have a certified device, which so far includes only a number of Sony phones and tablets as well as the HTC One series? Heck, I have a One series device - the EVO LTE - but turns out it's not certified. That's just silly.

Not a problem - if you have root on your phone or tablet, getting the PSM (PlayStation Mobile) apk to work is a matter of pushing a few files it relies on to your /system directory and rebooting.

The Jelly Bean update started rolling out to the Sprint variant of the Galaxy Nexus three short days ago, but if you still haven't gotten it or are rooted and have been waiting to install it manually, you can now grab it directly from Google's servers.

  • You must be on the latest Sprint OTA (FG01).
  • You must be running a custom recovery, have an unlocked bootloader with the stock recovery, or be rooted with a stock/locked device.

Two-Step Verification Now Available For Dropbox, Here's How To Enable It

Several weeks ago, Dropbox suffered a small security breach that gave wrong-doers access to a few unlucky users' email addresses. On the good side, it also brought the vulnerability to the Dropbox staff's attention. Since then, they've been working hard to beef up security, and today, they introduced two-step verification.

Much like Google's two-factor authentication, once enabled this requires you to login using two different sets of verification: your password and a unique identifier sent in either a text message or generated locally on the device using the authenticator app (which you have the option to get via QR during the set up process).

How To: Redeem Google Play Gift Cards Using The Device Play Store App

If you've been following the Play Store-related news cycle recently, you are probably well aware that Google is on the verge of releasing gift cards for use on Play Store's digital goods. The Redeem functionality, along with a new Wishlist, came with the new Play Store APK v3.8.15 that started rolling out yesterday but, unfortunately, the UI does not expose it yet.

There is no web interface for redemption either, but after digging through the APK, I discovered that it was set to intercept calls to http://play.google.com/redeem.

How-To: Manually Update Your Verizon 3G XOOM To Android 3.2 HTJ85B (Rooted Or Unrooted, With Locked Or Unlocked Bootloaders)

The Android 3.2 update for the Verizon 3G (soon-to-be 4G) XOOM can be flashed right now, before it hits your device over-the-air.

Custom Recovery

If you've flashed a custom recovery (and gave up the warranty), you can find update instructions over at MDW - in this case, you don't need our instructions below. This option is good for those with unlocked bootloaders (though if you're rooted, it seems the only update option right now is to install a pre-rooted update which will wipe your device).
