AccuWeather Gets Holo-ified, Automatically Looks Beautiful Because Holo

AccuWeather is one of the leading apps for getting more information than you could ever possibly need about the position of the sun, clouds, and the statistical likelihood that precipitation will fall from the sky. It has not, however, been the leader in Holo interfaces among weather apps (the Weather Channel beat it to the punch last week). Today, it catches up, though, with a brand spanking new UI.

It's not just menu bars and Roboto that are being added for this interface overhaul. The company has also improved the widgets, allowing them to be resizable. Which, you know, all widgets should be.

Official Weather Channel App Receives Major UI Update, Forecast Includes 100% Chance Of Holo

If you've given up on the official app of The Weather Channel in lieu of other, better-looking solutions, it may be time to give it another shot. The app has received a major update today that finally modernizes its previously-dated UI, bringing it up spec with the Android design guidelines. You know what that means – it's Holo, baby!

Not only is the app 4.0+ optimized, but it also brings a new tablet-friendly interface, as well as a killer new feature that will tell you the exact time rain (or other less-than-ideal weather conditions) are going to hit your area. That's slick.

WhatsApp Messenger Beta APK Released With Snazzy Holo Interface

Popular cross-platform messenger service WhatsApp is a little behind the times. It's part of the depressingly huge collection of Android apps that ape their iOS counterparts, never aspiring to anything higher. That appears to be close to an end, as the latest beta release of the Android client has a new user interface, and it conforms to the Holo guidelines that the rest of your phone (hopefully) uses. Google+ user Jose Luis de la Torre took some shots of the updated interface. Observe:

The version in the Google Play Store hasn't been updated yet, so you'll have to go off-market to try out the latest release.

Plex Media Center Gets Completely Rewritten From The Ground Up And It's Gorgeous

Can we be honest with ourselves? Plex kinda sucks. Hard to blame it, most third-party media centers on Android do at the moment. As a lengthy blog post by the developer points out, part of that has been due to Android's inflexibility and lack of a coherent UI in its history. That's changed over the last couple years and now Plex has been rebuilt from the ground up to be a lot more beautiful and a lot more functional.

The new version has followed the Android Design Guidelines very closely and it shows. While most of us here at Android Police are of the opinion that Holo alone does not make a good UI, the addition is most welcome, given the way the old version looks.

[New App] Foursquare For Business Checks Into The Play Store To Attract Customers On The Go

Believe it or don't, Fourquare has grown beyond hipster urbanites who desperately want to be the Mayor of the 6th Street Starbucks. More than a few businesses - independent or otherwise - are seeing the value in the location-based service. To that end, Foursquare has released its free business app on the Play Store, allowing local managers to update their business status for single or multiple locations.

Within the Foursquare for Business app, you can keep tabs on recent check-ins, set specials for users, and look up in-depth statistics for your business's performance on Foursquare. You can also update your location's status and send it out to Facebook and Twitter.

Reddit News Updated To Version 6, Adds Sliding User Interface And Multiple Account Support

There are a lot of Reddit users in the Android Police audience, and more than a few on the editorial team, so we like to highlight a quality Reddit browser when it comes along. And Reddit News certainly fits the bill: it's been one of the most consistently solid options for Android smartphones (and just lately, tablets) for some time. The latest update adds the oh-so-nice feature of sliding panels in the Holo interface, as well as support for multiple Reddit accounts at the same time.

The intuitive nature of the various sliding UI mechanics incorporates a lot of the usability mechanics and visual flair of the Google+ app.

There's A New Tasker Beta In Town And It's Got A Redesigned Holo UI

Remember back when Google showed off what Tasker could look like if it updated to support the new ICS guidelines and we all drooled? Then the dev behind it said that there's already a UI overhaul in the works and we started squirming in our seats? Well, today's the day we all freak out, because today the developer released a beta of Tasker 4.0b4 that shows off a completely redesigned interface.

Falcon Pro Updated To Version 1.5 With Light Theme, Multi-Window Support For Galaxy Devices, Various Enhancements

Besides the usual bug fixes, this update brings several big enhancements, not the least of which being a completely new, completely appealing "light theme," which will switch your Twitter experience to a pleasing holo light look.

Facedroid Finally Comes To Phones With Update To Version 2.52, Goes On Sale For $0.99

Facedroid is an app that ambitiously set out to give users a more powerful, functional Facebook experience. Until now, though, it was only available for Android tablets.

In a substantial update to version 2.52 today, that changed – the new update finally brings Facedroid to your phone. The phone interface, as you may expect, looks to bring the same functionality users have come to know and love from the tablet version. That being said, it should be noted that the phone interface is in beta, so users can expect that not everything works perfectly yet. To that end, the developers promise plenty of updates "coming soon" to continue refining Facedroid for the small screen.

Llama Updated With Jelly Bean Support, Holo Inspired UI, Event Sharing, And More [Updated]

Update 2: Llama has been returned to the Play Store this morning as promised, listed as version 1.2012.12.29.1412. As for the pesky silent mode/vibrate bug? This version's changelog indicates that it is "hopefully fixed."

Update: It looks like KebabApps has pulled Llama from the Play Store while the developer sorts out "a pain-in-the-butt problem involving silent mode," in which the app can – for some users – switch what should be silent mode to vibrate mode. KebabApps, in a blog post, provides more information on the issue, along with a (hopefully) fixed download, which users are encouraged to test, and which will be uploaded to the Play Store "tomorrow morning."

Llama, an extremely popular location-based profiling app, was issued an "über üpdate" today, bringing a handful of big changes from a new UI to bug fixes.
