The Grand Tournament - A Massive Hearthstone Expansion Is Coming In August With 132 New Cards, A New Playing Board, And More

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, is a pretty awesome game that combines simplicity, strategy, and luck better than any other card game I've tried. Since being introduced to it a few months ago, I have played more matches than I care to admit and, for the most part, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. That is, until recently. Over the past couple of weeks the game has gotten really stale. It seems that every day I play against the same 8-10 decks that everyone uses and that is getting kinda old.

The wonderful (and awful) thing about Hearthstone is that just as players are refining their decks to perfection to dominate the game, new cards are introduced that turn everything upside again.

Happy Fifth Birthday, Android: An Exploration Of Android's Five Year Journey To The Top

Hi, Android! Sorry your present is a little late, it took a while to wrap it. Five years ago yesterday, Google's then-CEO Eric Schmidt joined other members of the newly-formed Open Handset Alliance to announce the Android operating system. Back then, we were still nearly a year away from an actual Gphone (and yes, people really called it that) and Sprint and T-Mobile were the only US carriers even interested. Now, Android is installed on over 400 million devices, nearly every carrier in the world wants a piece of the action, and the platform as a whole is the single largest mobile OS ever.

[New Game] Legends Of Loot Gives Players A "Not-So-Typical" Adventure Experience

Majesco Entertainment is asking Android users if they are ready to "become a legend" with Legends of Loot, released to the Play Store today.

Legends of Loot, as you may expect from glancing at the icon above, is a humorous, cartoonish, "not-so-typical" take on the adventure game genre. The game, which promises players will "quickly develop into grand adventurers" as they progress through each environment, follows a plucky protagonist who must face off against evil dragon overlords while solving "mind-bending" puzzles and traversing mazes and traps in Egyptian, Medieval, and Asian environments across close to one hundred levels.

Legends' control scheme is based on touch gestures and accelerometer movement, allowing players to intuitively attack enemies or dodge oncoming attacks.

Amazon Appstore Doubles Down: Farm Frenzy And Newsweek Mobile Both Free Today

That's right, Amazon's offering not one, but two free apps on the Amazon Appstore this morning! You can pick up the popular HeroCraft title Farm Frenzy along with the official Newsweek Mobile app from Amazon free of charge.

com.herocraft.game.farmfrenzy-2.10.17-AD-A02._SL320_V184102971_ newsweek_resize._SL356_V168510278_

I don't know about you - but I can't tell which is which.

Newsweek Mobile offers Amazon's "Test Drive" in-browser emulation, so you can try it from your browser before making the 15 second commitment to put it on your phone. Anyways, load up the Amazon Appstore (if you can) and grab these freebies while the getting is good.

Update: We've gotten in touch with Herocraft, the developer of Farm Frenzy, about extra permissions that their game uses (such as access to contacts).

CyanogenMod 6.0.0 Final/Stable For HTC Hero CDMA Released

CyanogenMod 6 is one of the most popular Android custom ROMs, and for a good reason - besides supporting a myriad of devices, it is built from AOSP (Android Open Source Project), which means no extra garbage that normally comes installed by carriers and customizations/improvements for the people, by the people (the CM contributor community is huge).

Sprint has abandoned our beloved HTC Hero (it was my first Android device a bit under a year ago now and holds a special place in my heart) but the Android community hasn't. The Hero lives on - in fact it has been enjoying Android 2.2 Froyo for a while now in alpha/beta/RC form, not thanks to Sprint yet again.

Back To School With Android: The Budget Phones And Awesome Apps That Will Help You Get Through The Year

Phones

Not everyone needs a new phone at this time of year, especially as you probably got your last one some time around Christmas, but if you’re in the market for a decent Android phone on your college-sized budget, here’s the what you’re looking at if you’re one of the four major carriers:

Verizon

  • Motorola Droid - Affordable doesn’t necessarily have to mean cheap, and such is the case with the original Motorola Droid. While Verizon itself no longer carries the original, (it’s been dropped in favor of the Droid 2) it can be had for the price of $0.00 (or, at most, $0.01) at third-party retailers like WireFly, Amazon, and LetsTalk.com.

Universal Androot App Offers One-Click Root On A Multitude Of Devices (G1, Nexus One, Droid, Droid X, Hero, X10, Streak, And More)

Looking for an easy way to root your Android Device? Universal Androot may just be what the doctor ordered. The one-click root fad seems to be catching on and Universal Androot is an app that covers multiple Android devices, making it easier for those who may be reluctant experience the mighty wonders of root.

universal-androot[3]

Universal Androot is the simplest root/unroot method I have seen to date and probably the safest - it has been confirmed as working by multiple users (apparently it uses the same exploit used to 1-click root the Motorola Droid X).

Note: This application just gives you root and does not unlock the /system partition or the boot loader on those devices that have them locked, such as the Droid X.

BREAKING: Android 2.1 Eclair OTA Update Now Being Rolled Out To European HTC Hero Users

HTC Hero users across Europe are reporting that a two-part OTA update is being pushed to their devices. The first update addresses some bug fixes and system updates; but the second, OTA_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R-2.73.405.93   is without a doubt the chocolate-éclair goodness Hero users have been salivating over for the past few weeks. One of our Danish readers tipped us that his hero had been updated, and was kind enough to provide us a few screenshots.

It seems that Hero users will finally be able to join the 2.0+ club. Additionally, many users are reporting (Credit: AndroidForums, @mclemmnsn) that the update does not perform a full data wipe.
