[Updated x2: Root May Not Be Related After All] Epic 4G Touch Experiencing Loss Of Service Bug On Some Devices

Update: After receiving a distraught email from Team ACS, it has been brought to our attention that their root method may not be the cause of signal loss on the Epic 4G Touch. We're currently researching the details and will update this post accordingly.

Update x2: According to new information we received, there have been reports of this same issue happening on non-rooted phones. We're not sure how things got twisted around to point the finger at rooted devices, but we do know that Sprint is looking into it.

Have you rooted your Epic Touch 4G? Apparently, some users who have tried to flash Zedomax and ACS's custom kernel have experienced a loss of signal bug.

AT&T Galaxy S II Kernel Source Code Released On Samsung's Open Source Release Center

While Samsung may have promptly released the kernel source code for Sprint's Epic 4G Touch on release day, it has gone one step further with AT&T's variant and already uploaded the code to its Open Source Release Center. AT&T just announced the launch date of October 2nd this morning, so this makes the code available nearly two weeks before the phone.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Release Date Announced: October 2nd For $200

We've basically known all there is to know about the US versions of the Galaxy S II for a while now, just short of the release date and price for AT&T and T-Mobile.

You can scratch Ma Bell off that list now, though, as it just announced via Twitter that the long-awaited GSII will be available on October 2nd for $200 with a two-year agreement. I'm sure all AT&T customer have the spec list embedded deep into their memory banks in anticipation of this beauty, but just in case you've forgotten, here they are again:

T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S II Will Come With A 1.5GHz Dual-Core Snapdragon According To GalaxySsupport's Twitter

When Samsung officially unveiled the US variants of the Galaxy S II, the spec sheet for T-Mobile's variant was oddly absent from the show. After that, we started hearing that it would not be sporting the same Exynos processor of its AT&T and Sprint siblings, but rather a chip from a "different manufacturer," with no word as to who that manufacturer could be.

Today, though, one Twitter-er had enough with the guesswork and decided to get an answer directly from the source: @GalaxySsupport, the official support account for all US Galaxy S devices. The first response was a bit lackluster however, only stating only that it "has a dual core processor." Naturally, this answer was just not good enough, so the question was asked again, this time with more detail.

Update: On further reflection, we're going to tentatively call this image a "rumor" for now, as we have no way to confirm its authenticity, but we have no reason to think these images are fake, either.

Finally, visual proof that unicorns do exist! Someone, somewhere, has leaked a shot of the upcoming Galaxy S II US market handsets headed for three of America's big four carriers (ATT, T-Mo, Sprint). Without further ado, here they are:

Where the image is from, we're not sure (pocketnow provided no details), but it could very well be a slide from Samsung's upcoming press conference to announce the arrival of the first US-friendly Galaxy S II phones.

Rumor: Sprint Getting The Galaxy S II In September, To Be Called The Epic Touch 4G

Well, the Galaxy S II rumors are really starting to heat up stateside. Earlier today, BGR let loose a tip that Sprint may be getting its own Galaxy S II-based handset as early as next month (September), and that it will be dubbed the 'Epic Touch 4G.' This obviously implies that the device will not share the physical QWERTY keyboard of its etymological ancestor, the Epic 4G.

The phone will also feature Sprint's WiMAX 4G - which raises another big question: just how should Sprint subscribers reconcile the carrier's planned adoption of LTE with yet another WiMAX handset on the way?

Samsung's original Galaxy S was undoubtedly a great success for the company. One could say it was their first serious smartphone, and its core was widely dispersed around the globe, appearing as the i9000 in Europe and Asia, and - perhaps more familiarly - the AT&T Captivate, Sprint Epic 4G, T-Mobile Vibrant, and Verizon Fascinate in the USA. While we have yet to see firm plans for a repeat of this four-pronged attack with the successor to the Galaxy S, the Galaxy S II i9100 (aka the Samsung "It's Over 9000!") is already widely available throughout the rest of the world and is making waves while at it.

Samsung Galaxy S II Coming To Bell, Virgin Mobile, And SaskTel In Canada, US Still Lies In Wait

While the US patiently waits for any of its carriers to announce the Samsung Galaxy S II, our neighbor to the north just got itself a heaping helping of awesome. Not just one or two, but three Canadian carriers - Bell, Virgin Mobile, and SaskTel - announced that they would be carrying this superphone in the coming weeks.

The only carrier to provide any worthwhile info was SaskTel, stating that the GSII will come in for $79.99 with a three-year agreement, but no official release date was pegged.

While both release date and pricing are completely lacking for Virgin and Bell, you can sign up to win one at Bell's GSII landing page.

Fring For Android Updated, Finally Supports Nexus S (2.3.4), Thunderbolt, DROID Charge, Galaxy S II, G2X

So, you bought that fancy new Nexus S/DROID Charge/Galaxy S II/G2X/Flyer with a front-facing camera, and you were excited to make video calls. Then you noticed there isn't any native video chat client for Android (yet - Talk will have this integrated soon). Then you heard about fring, which is pretty cool. Then you tried to install it, only to discover it didn't work. Then you probably had a sad.

Well, frown no more - fring has been updated to support all sorts of front-facing camera-having devices (like the ones in the title, plus the HTC Flyer). The update has also included general bugfixes and improvements to audio quality, so head on over to the Market and check it out!

Samsung Galaxy S II Coming To US As Attain, Function, And Within On AT&T, VZW, And Sprint?

Pocketnow, via a wireless accessories website, has apparently discovered the names of 3 of the carrier-branded versions of the Galaxy S II that will be coming stateside later this year. The device will be known as the Attain on AT&T, the Function on Verizon Wireless, and the Within on Sprint.

Mysteriously absent is a T-Mobile version, suggesting either that the device won't be coming to America's pinkest carrier, or that it will be arriving in a different (QWERTY?) form-factor which does not fit the case being advertised on the source webpage. Either that, or they just don't know the name of it, yet.
