Is A Black Version Of The Galaxy S III On The Way? This Leak From Carphone Warehouse Points To "Probably"

We've received some interesting information from an insider at Carphone Warehouse suggesting that a black version of Samsung's Galaxy S III is in the works, and we're inclined to trust it. Here's our evidence, from the company's internal product database:

If you recall, way back when the Galaxy S III was but a rumor-laden twinkle in our collective eyes, GSMArena received a similar leak from inside Carphone Warehouse confirming the white and blue colors the phone was launched in.

This is on top of two images that recently popped up on a Samsung Facebook page, as part of an Olympics-themed gallery for the Galaxy S III.

Why The T-Mobile Galaxy S III Does Not Have A Quad-Core Exynos Processor - It's Not What You Might Think

Back at the announcement of the Galaxy S III, many people were quick to note that Samsung disclaimed the availability of the Exynos quad-core processor powering the beast as contingent on certain issues of geography. And then we learned that, for reals, the US versions of the Galaxy S III would be shipping with Snapdragon S4 dual-cores onboard - the MSM8960 chipset, to be precise.

And that included T-Mobile's version, which many speculated (myself included) might be the only Exynos-packing Galaxy S III to make its way to the US of A. We thought this might be a possibility because T-Mobile doesn't have an LTE network, and won't have one that's really in place in any practical sense for another year plus.

Editorial: Why The Importance Of The Unified Galaxy S III Launch In The US Cannot Be Overstated

Here in the United States, we've all been witness to an historic "second" this week (as opposed to a first) in the unified launch of the Galaxy S III, untainted by carrier modification, on all four of the major US wireless providers (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile).

Now, you'll probably say "but David, the Galaxy S III is the first smartphone to launch as the same model on all four major carriers!" and you'd be right. That's important, no doubt about it. But really, the iPhone has had two, and now three, of the four major carriers, and the addition of T-Mobile isn't exactly a massive achievement - heck, they can't even come to an agreement with Apple to sell the iPhone at all.

[Update: Pre-Orders Are Live] Sprint Announces The Galaxy S III Available June 21, Pre-Orders Start June 5 - $199 For 16GB, $249 For 32GB

Alongside Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, Sprint has announced that it, too, will be carrying the next Galaxy in just a few short weeks. As far as we can tell, the device will be unbranded aside from the standard Sprint logos, but we've yet to confirm this (Sprint has not provided images).

Yesterday, we'd heard from Samsung that the device would be coming to five carriers in the US, and with Sprint's announcement, we're now up to all five. Sprint's will be the only Galaxy S III in the US to come with Google Wallet pre-loaded on the device, which makes sense, as AT&T, VZW, and T-Mobile are all members of the ISIS mobile payment platform alliance.

US Cellular Announces The Samsung Galaxy S III, Pre-Orders Begin June 12

Alongside Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile, regional carrier US Cellular has made official that it will be carrying Samsung's Galaxy S III, with pre-orders beginning on June 12th. Pricing has yet to be announced, but as a regional carrier, US Cellular often has slightly higher premiums than its national counterparts, so potentially expect something above the standard $199 price-tag for the 16GB model.

As with all the announced US Galaxy S III devices, it is packing a Snapdragon S4, rather than a quad-core Exynos processor, which means full LTE support.

US Cellular will offer the device in both blue and white; however, only the Marble White color will be available with the 32GB capacity version.

Yep, It's Pretty Likely The Galaxy S III Won't Have A Quad-Core Processor In The US

If you've been following the Galaxy S III news today, you know it has a banging new Exynos 4 quad-core processor that absolutely obliterates benchmarks. The problem is that the Exynos 4 platform is quite old at this point (for a mobile chipset), and was never designed to support LTE. That's why devices like the Galaxy S II Skyrocket don't use an Exynos chip. Devices with Exynos 4 chips that do, like the Galaxy Tab 7.7 LTE, use an external one - adding thickness and increasing power consumption.

While Samsung has hinted at times that the Exynos 4412 chip could, in theory, support LTE with an external (read: adding thickness, weight, decreasing battery life) modem, nothing concrete has come of those rumblings.

  • S-Voice: advanced voice recognition, "like a good friend who listens attentively" -- definitely a strong competitor to Siri
  • Floating videos: lets you resize videos and move them around on the display whilst they float atop other windows.

Yes, This Is Another "Leaked" Galaxy S III Photo, And We've Seen It Before

I want to start this post by saying, in no uncertain terms, I am just as sick and tired of the Galaxy S III rumors as everyone else - it really is getting out of hand. So, you can rest assured that I wouldn't be bringing this newest "leak" to your attention if I didn't think it had some merit. Here are the photos:

Now, we're pretty sure that the Galaxy S III is going to be model i9300. Given that Samsung's Kies software shows that model number, it's a fairly safe bet. If we take that as true, we're probably looking at a prototype / dummy shell for the international version of the Galaxy S III.

Samsung Says Galaxy S III Launch Date Rumors Are Untrue, Won't Even Confirm It's Called The Galaxy S III

It's always strange to see a company directly comment on rumors about its own products, but Samsung doesn't seem to take issue with it, as a statement they made to The Verge late last night confirms.

The latest speculation Samsung has cracked down on has been in regard to the Galaxy S III, stemming from a ZDNet Korea article that indicated the device would be unveiled next month. Here's the rough Google translation of the original tweet from Samsung's Korean arm regarding the issue:
